36 coupe.... fence charger ???

Hey,
I've got several of the car battery operated 12 volt parmaks (magnum 12?). Anyway, one was working fine yesterday evening an dead this morning. Checked the fence and put on a new (charged) battery. Needle doesn't move now but can hear a faint click. Only charging about 500 yrds of fence. Walked the entire fence this morning and found no grounds. Book that came with it doesn't mention a fuse. Is there one inside? Was real windy last night and could have had lightning but it's an unlikely (not impossible tho) place for a lightning strike. Gonna check again tomorrow when it's daylight, just wondering about the fuse...

Thanks, Dave

No fuse on late models. If you hear a click with no output on meter lightning may have hurt the out put transformer.Usually damages the secondary. If secondary is open the paper wrap is damaged most of the time.First step on chasger repair is disconnet the fence and check for a spark with a screw driver. most chargers will jump a 3/16 gap.Circuit board is 45.00 US.Parmak sells only the board. My shop is closed in winter now.

Thanks! I'll check it tomorrow (dark when I get off today)... For 45 bucks and postage back and forth, it's cheaper (+/-?) just to order a new one...
Hard to troubleshoot in the dark and rain...

Thanks again....

I will... What I've noticed about any of them (and I got a bunch) is the fence (red) wire insulation gets porous (?) and shorts out if it just lays against something. We also have a lot of snails (slugs?) and these chargers attracts them. nastiest thing you ever saw is a glob of half cooked slime around the fence terminal... And you can hear that dead "plop" sound a couple hundred yards away at night....... I'll be checking everything 1st thing in the morning and it'll prolly be something simple... I hope...

In the Army, in Germany, in the 60's, I saw BIG
snails...no shells..about 4 inch's long, big
around as a quarter. If thats what you're referring to, I can see where they'ed short out
a fencer!

yep.... Just make a mess everywhere too.... Only way to deal with them is either spreading blue crumb stuff like fertilizer and enjoying the appetizing slimegobs while barbequeing or put out a covered container with beer in it and they go in and drown.....

Problem is gonna be tuffer and more expensive than I thought.......
Gotta adjust or replace the wife..... put a battery on the charger before going to work one day and asked her to take it off later if the charger gauge read full (yes I showed her how). Grabbed that full battery the other day to replace the dead one on the charger.... Took another battery this morning for another fence and decided to check again before taking anything apart.... All good.... emailed the wife and asked about the charge that day (just outta curiosity).... Said that it was a little dark where the charger was and she needed the receptical to plug in her light to do her little project in the same room.... me says..."Oh, OK Honey, when was that?" she says "about an hour after you left that day"

Me says... "I Love You Dear"

What does an anurism feel like????????????
