Buddy Seat Ideas

Tractor club rules say no riders unless they have a seat. I have a Oliver 88 and a JD 70 that I would like to add a buddy seat to each one so my grandkids can ride with me. I have seen JD's with a extra wide seat on them, but looks like that makes it hard to get on and off of. I have a seat cushion and backrest from a 6600 combine that I would like to use for the 70. Anyone have any pictures or have made an extra seat for your tractor? I would like to make it strong enough to carry an adult. On the 88, I just bought a aftermarket replacement seat and I'm thinking about using the pipe mounting holes in the frame and fastening to the axle maybe make a platform for the seat? Looking for ideas. Chris

I used to weld for a stamping company and got a few reject schooldesk seats. I repaired one and welded a short piece of square tube to the bottom. A corresponding telescoping size I welded to a piece of channel that bolted under the seat of my Ford so the rider sat behind me. It was easily lifted off when not needed.

I like the rider sits behind idea. Benefit #1, maybe they don't get run over if they fell off. Benefit #2, operator is upwind if rider had beans for supper the night before.

I should have added that they will be riding while plowing and pulling a pull picker, so the seat behind the seat wouldn't be very good. Prefer by the left wheel or in front of the operator on the left side by the hood. Chris

I suppose if they were meant to carry more than 1, they would have made them that way.. here is the solution.

on't forget that you have a steering wheel to hold onto & you can anticipate the tractor's next move, so be careful with those little ones in the extra seat.

99, We have a buddy seat on our 70...it is one of the ones that they advertise in Green Magazine, it doesn't affect mounting dismounting at all provided you mount from the left rear and I'm a fat azz! In fact it's so innocuous that we don't even bother changing it out any more. I love it for plowing, kick the old right knee up and watch your furrow...very comfy! I did feel the need to make a little fender as the kids could have easily reached over to the tire with that offset to the right, just used some 1/2 plywood, traced the contour of the seat rail made it six inches higher, painted it green nounted it with some conduit clips around the arm of the seat, added some foam and vinyl in the top for an armrest, son plexiglass on the side so we can slip the kid who's riding with "Boppa" or Me: Uncle Pete inder it.
Little pricey to put on each one we have so bought a conduit bender gonna make our own now. Not much to making one.
Bought an extra farmall pan seat to make one for our Farmalls, will post one once we get it figured out!

Thanks for the reply's and the pictures. I'll check out the JD seat. I thinking now that I should try to find a set of flat top fenders for a 770 to put on the 88. Chris
