Tractor shopping...worse than truck shopping

Still looking at replacing the 1206,806, 1750, and 870 with 2 newer cab'd a/c models. Sure isnt alot out there. Anything with less than 9999 hours is over priced, and anything over worries me. All I want is one good tillage tractor, one that will be good on the 7000 8 row planter and can do tillage duty, wagon hauling. I will still have the 544 dsl hydro, for pto work. As advised by doc, I need to get out of the sun, and breath less dust. If I get deathly ill after this next spring planting for the 3rd time, my wife will have me in the ER getting prodded and poked. Any one else ever gotten deathly sick right after planting? Wondering if it isnt the dust from the corn seed? Either way, I need an upgrade.

did u try external_link , you can use ur zip and find the closer ones -- nothen cheap in ag nowa days -- farmers got some $$$$

oh i don't know about truck shopping, traded my 4dr for a reg cab, [diesel of course], then i see a super-cab sat at a car/truck lot, now got me thinking of trading again, then i tell myself, hey dummy, you ain't had it for 1/2 year yet and just bought plates...a tractor, you see and you want it because there isn't a bunch around like trucks...lol

What's cheap to you? Some deals to be had on trade-in's around here. Lot's of dealers with too many 5-10 year old tractors with 2000-5000 hours. If you don't need 4wd and loader the deals are even better at least around here.

I'm looking at $20-25,000 for a 130-170 hp range for a main tillage tractor, 100-130 for the everything else tractor. Alot of beat up ones on lots, 8000-12000 hours, early to mid 80's, all over $18,000. Would like to have something with under 7000 hours, 2wd or 4wd. Just do not want something that will be in shop for a month after the first acre of work. Have found a few "ready to work" tractors on lots and when I ask to try them out for a few acres under load and at operating temp, they say Nope, but you can come drive it around the lot. Red flag for me.

Look on the corporate web sites for corporate rental returns. in 2006 I bought a 2003 6290 massey with mfwd with 800 hours and one year warranty. the tractor was in N.C. and I got it delivered to my ranch for 50,000

Most tractors in that range are about 20-25 years old. Look for a decent 4440. I bought a 4240 a few years ago for $17k, and it has been bulletproof, and easy to work on. Newer they are, the more complicated. I like the newer cabs better (6000-7000 series), but you'll pay more for them. Take your time- there are afew creampuffs out there, mostly private sale, for a good price.

I went over to tractor house and was gonna paste some links but from the pictures and what the internet says there seem to be some decent options in about every color. my favorite i saw was a ford 9600 dual power with 3000hrs. also some nice
J I CASE 2560s. were you thinking 25000 for two or 20-25k per tractor. Cause from the internet it does seem 2 for 25k is hard. good luck let us know what you get.

hey i just looked at MN craigslist if you look under farm and garden and search tractor there seem to be some deals you may want to check out your local craigslist.

Start shopping private sale or get to know a dealer well and try to buy trades that are the wrong colour for his dealer.

The dealers are al priced pretty close on used, they all have the same price books.

Private sale there are some good machines available at reasonable (and unreasonable prices). I saw a nice Valtra 240 hp (they are light though) 4wd with cab, 4000 hours, gear transmission go for 30,000$ in the last year.

Try auctiontime . com Some of those larger ones on there go for a good price. The older and smaller ones are usually closer to typical lot prices.

I don't know what you can afford, but 7100-7200 series Magnums or 50,55, or 60 series John's are the best used tractors money can buy generally speaking IMHO. I'd think a good 7140 and 7110 would be just about perfect for you, being a "red guy"...I think the CaseIH powershifts are the absolute best...JD's aren't too bad though.

typed out a reply and got a reject message

Anyway, they seem to throw the big stuff at you here... As far as being sick, if your seed has that red/pink dust on it, that could be your problem...

Neighbor developed an allergy to it and it almost killed him a couple years ago... He wears a filtered respirator when planting/handling it now and no exposed skin....
