Got this 93 S-15 Jimmy and a 85 Chev S-10 blazer. Well the blazer has a good transmission and a bad engine and the 93 Jimmy has a good engine but bad transmission. Was told that we can not swap the transmissions due to one being cable control and the other computer control is that correct??
Thanks

Reverse stopped working all at once and it will not shift out of any of the forward gears. It seems to be locked in just one gear when in drive or OD but you can still use park and neutral

Sounds like the sunshell broke or has stripped teeth. If the fluid isn"t burnt and not alot of "mud" at the bottom of the pan,I wouldn"t hesitate to throw a new shell in it.GM released a stronger one a few years back.

Once the tranny is out,it takes me about 30 min to swap out the shell, inspect the 3-4 clutches and 2-4 band and air check the forward clutch assy.Get the ol" gal out and we"ll walk you through it.Was this a 2 or 4wd?

What Brad said,

That is a REALLY, REALLY easy fix. If you're careful, you won't even have to buy any gaskets or a kit and the nice part is that you don't have to dig very deep to get to the failed part.

Think you can get that shell for 'bout $60?

Hardest part of the whole she-bang is gettin' 'er down outta the truck.

You said S10, so it must be 2 wheel drive. Or did ya mean T10?

Well that is fine but I am not an auto transmission guy. I have rebuilt standards but never an auto and yes this is a 4X4 Jimmy that the boy ran low on fluid for a short time and then it did the freeze plug thing and then no back um up

Oh, oh.

The plot thickens. He ran it low on fluid? Stuck in 2nd gear? Fluid is black?

Gotta go clear to the bottom of 'er with an overhaul kit then.

Fluid still looks pretty good but ya figure he did a big no no when he ran it low and drive it about 25 miles that way. Drove it to church that morning parked it got out of church and it drove back wards. Drove it 4 miles home which at some point in those 4 miles blew a freeze plug out of the engine and heated it up and then it would not go back wards at that point. Put in new freeze plug and he drove it again and it blew another freeze plug and would not shift
