What is better

Yes, Taking the best from both manufacturers would do fine with me. Some of each were real dogs, Some were just wrong. Some technologies out lived their welcome. Some were retired too early. Some were cared for, some were bastardized, some were loved to death. Some were prayed over. Jim

Grew up around Allis Chalmers-so, not much help on that one. I like the 4440 JDs, and the 1266 IHs-not from me using them, just from seeing them around!

Depends on how close your dealers are and which one you get along with best. They all break, they all have good and bad points and products.

Kind of loke Ford vs Chevy. Depends on the individual.
Seriously, as someone else said dealer support and attitude is very important. It also depends on which models (HP) of tractor you are looking at. One make may be better at one rating and the other at another rating.
Try to drive both are talk to reliable neighbors.

wow this is going to get ugly. talk about opening a can of worms. I like them both. Not really a fan of the new tractors, but i have spent quite a bit of time on 20 series deeres and 4455's. they are good tractors. I always thought the 4020 drove around like a smaller tractor which can be good or bad. I also have driven the 806, 1066, 1466 IH tractors. They seem to have some extra power then the deeres but they shift like crap.

Assuming your asking about new tractors. I had a John Deere 2210 tractor. If I described it the thread would go poof. I heard enough first hand at the parts counter at Case from their people, there is no way I would buy one. I would say neither.

From a 4010 to a 8400 John Deere has always been in the lead. Their resale is higher. They are the only ones that still own their self. It's a no-brainier. And I am a Allis and Moline Guy. Vic

John Deere G's for fun...except they want gas all the time. Farmall Super M if you've got some serious work to do...Hey, what about Minneapolis-Moline???, I've got one of them too!
