Tractors, what do you want

This is for all those people that use or play with tractors. If you were going to build a tractor what would you want it to be. What would you want it to have and what would you not want to have. Now think out of the box no matter how far out. What would you want the company to be. What do you like about some and what don't you like about others.

Is this gonna be like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer found his brother and ruined his car company by designing a car for the common man?

My design would be an H sized tractor with wide front,T/A,3 point and a cab. I have seen pictures on here of an H with a cab and the builder did a super job of incorporating the cab to the H. Would be a nice size tractor for hobby farms and or to blow snow with a 6' blower. 484,584,684,784 and 884 all are about right with cab. These would compete with Kobota if they were available w/cab on the market today.

If using for a purpose, then the question is really, "qualifying the tractor for the work you do", of course with a little extra, power, options etc., to be efficient and comfortable while doing the work.

For what I do, a nice industrial like a ford 545-D,C FWA, Fel, Forks, (maybe loader adapted to quick tach) wheel weights 3 pt, pto would do fine, cab, or weather cab would be nice. Of course the modern equivalents would also be nice, though there is something to the feel of the older style like the industrial type I mentioned. I really like the size and nice to have 60 HP packed in there too. Fuel economy with modern ones can't be overlooked, but I don't run a lot of hours so one of these would still be cost effective. If I had to run a splitter or pto generator or just had tons of field work, would be different.

Play does not come to mind, would be fun to have one you have restored from complete disassembly, take to a show on occasion, but it could be any model, make for that matter.

Adequate drive line to handle 150% engine power and shock loading, with a good (internal not the hydraulic system) lube system.
A 4speed trans with a 4speed TA like rapid shift.
A direct injection stratified charge gasoline engine (current technology)
Direct injection Current technology Diesel as an option.
CNG-Propane options
Quiet cab with removable panels that would make it a ROPS canopy when opened.
Solid airconditioning and heat.
Cab adjustable wheel spacing.
Wide front that was capable of articulated wheel turning to duplicate the spin radius of a trike.
Changable clutch and PP without splitting.
Accessable Hydraulic pumps and fittings.
PTO system with a automaticlly governed ability to run at 540 or 1000 at mid engine speeds as well as full speed with interchangable shafts.
Draft control that works.
Midship operating position.
Low profile front hood for visibility.
Hydraulic seat.
Availability in 8 sizes from macro garden, to 200 HP (bigger is already pretty much covered and needs less and more things to work)
Lighting and warning systems that are dependable and BBBRRRIIIGGGHHHTTT.
Electrical and Computer systems that are accessible and organized.
CD or DVD included (or downloadable from the CPU onto a jump drive for use on a computer) including a Complete model specific parts and service manual, as well as operating and maintenance manuals in PDF.
Self centering wheel to rim system.
Fuel filler away from finished sheet metal.
Quiet exhaust directed away from operator.
Tool Box for real tools with a gasket!

seat on each fender for the dogs and a self cleaning system........ Modify mine with that and I's happy........

Could be driving a brand new tractor and you'd never know it with all the mud........

Self cleaning and adjusting battery cables, a common grease and filter change point, and a power reverser.

There is a guy on youtube that made his own tractor, 4wd too. It says CAT on the side, it is a diesel engine. Very cool looking, you couldnt buy this from a tractor manufacturer thats for sure.
He says he spent 2000 hours making this thing.

For most all of my haying older 2wd row-crops work just fine, I don`t need a cab, ROPS, 4WD, or AC where I am at, so a 2510 or 2520 powershift diesel is great for the smaller jobs, and a 4020PS is big enough for my "big" jobs. For a bigger field tractor a 4450 powershift would be high on the list. For a chore and loader tractor the Versatile/Ford/New Holland bi-directionals really appeal to me, they are really the only big step in tractors in a very long time, IMHO. If I had to have only one tractor, it might very well be a 9030 ford.

Don't forget lockup torque converter so you can have the best of both worlds. And a user controlled open/locked differential.

waterproof, sound proof, flat tire proof, mouse proof, never breaks down, good on fuel....and will never get stuck!!!!

I wish I still had that magazine article from many decades ago about "Farming in the 80s". Artists renditions of what they thought tractors would look like by then. As I recall,it was a 4 wheel drive, all 4 tires the same size,a body kinda like a Corvette, bubble top, something new for a tractor....air conditioning. It had 4 PTO shafts, front, back and both sides. One of the tillage tools that is was supposed to pull I remember, was a sonic tiller of some kind. Used sound waves off of probes that you pulled along in the ground.

There were big domed hog facilities too as I recall. Been a long time ago,but not a whole lot of the pictures were anything that came to reality. Kinda like the flying cars we were supposed to have by the end of the 60s.

I used a 3020 diesel wide front jd in the 80's that I rebuilt the engine on, also replaced some parts in the transmission. I pulled a mower with it was all I did but really liked the tractor. I kept thinking I'd find one but never really looked that hard..And I've read on this site that some folks just don't like a 3020 and would rather take a butt whoopin than own one..

Ha Ha -
Been waiting on here for a pic of one yrs.
Somebody post one quick :)
Email is open as not to get the Tractor Gods mad :D

I know they've already been built but none now exist so if I could have one made I'd have a Ferguson LTX (Large tractor experimental) with a diesel engine. Sam

probably go with a 1655 Oliver with a couple extra options. I would like a foot throttle and a differential lock as well. Probably have hydraulic brakes too instead of disk brakes.

Also would like a 1955 Oliver with a cummins 5.9 turbo in it for farming. I would want it to have a foot throttle and differential lock on it too.

Last but not least I would like a White 120 with a cab and heat/air with all the extras.

I guess I am too picky. :p

It's purported that this is one, but it's obviously been photoshopped.

A like brand new '51 John Deere G with power steering, live hydraulics and PTO, locking rear axle, custom fitted Heat Houser and able to pull 4-14's on one gallon of gas every four hours instead of four gallons of gas every hour. Just for fun of course!
For serious work, the latest version with all the mod's and bells and whistles, of an International 5488 with dual 20.8-42's on Firestone Deep Treads...brand new and paid for.
