O/T ID chevy block

block numbers on 8 cyl. is at the back of the block, on the lip the bellhousing bolts to, on top. Don"t remember about 6 cyl. but don"t think block numbers had letters in"em.

Do you know roughly what year? If it is one of the '62 or newer look for the casting number above where it says "GM" on the passenger side of the block. Should be a six or seven digit number.

Is there any other numbers to determine what I have. For some reason Dad saved this block. I would hate to toss it in the iron pile if it had some value other than scrap. Thanks Stan

Any idea what year he decided to keep it? not that it will help but it might..I don't have anything to I-D the letters and numbers you have.

Stan,

I hate to be a spoil sport, but are you sure
it's a chevy ? The reason I ask , I have looked
thru my AREA casting number book and the letter
number grouping looks more like ford. In gm it
doesn't show any letter /number groups like that.
Also , in ford I don't find it , I find CONN
with several different suffixes.
