Just for kicks I typed the name of my home town (Aitkin, MN) into the Youtube search box.
Was surprised to see a set of 3 short videos by a couple of kids in a canoe going down the creek by my land. I own on their left side from the culvert he mentions to the lake and have fished beside the beaver house since my grand dad showed me as a kid.
Looks like a larger river than it is but it flows through a 10' diameter culvert where it goes under the road.
About a 2 acre floating bog along much of my side with the high ground farther back.
My great grand dad bought 250 acres there back in 1880 or so. I still have 16 acres of it where the creek (Ripple River) enters Spirit Lake.
Frog Alley is named for all of us stubborn Frenchmen still living in those parts.
Just to keep this on topic I do bush hog and finish mow about 4 acres there.

Small world, yes. I live in PA and was to Aitkin on a 4-H trip in 1977, stayed on a farm with people by the last name of Anderson

We met the nybergs while in Minnesota to attend the western
Minnesota steam threshers reunion at rollag. They were both
very nice and informative. The mother of the astronaut was
the postmaster of Vining and the father was retired and built
objects out of metal. He was very gifted, took us in his shop,
and explained to us how he made his objects. True and
proud Americans.

Quite true Bob they are very nice people. He's about 3 miles from me. I see those statues every few days.

Great video Rick. Never heard of the sculpture garden before.
Yeah Youtube is a lot of fun. A guy can get lost there for hours.
Type in 'diesel cold start' or just 'cold start' sometime.
You'll see everything from new D8 Cats, Peterbilts, ship engines, tractors to all kinds of train engines that haven't been run for a while. They all smoke white, rattle and groan but are fun to watch come to life.
Unbelievable how much stuff there is on youtube.

Jerry if you are ever in this area there are the several more statues along the main drag too. I have seen several vids on utube that my kids have sent me links to but last night I really took a look at whats on there. Amazing! So interesting stuff and some garbage but still kinda cool.

Hey, small world. We have a relative that has two cabins on Spirit that we stay at for a week in the summer. Have made many, many trips down "frog alley" to Farm Island Store for beer and bait. Great lake, great area.

My wife's family owns some lakeshore property on Nord Lake. It has been in her family for 3 generations. My wife (60 years old) stayed with her grandparents during the summer. Would row across the lake to get eggs from a farm. Love the area.

Next time you go I'll have to tell you where the keys are and you can have my mowing done before I get up there for the weekend. Then I'll have more time for the important things like fishing and drinking beer :)
