Adding water to an GAM battery

Has anyone had any luck adding water to a glass absorbing mat battery that won't hold a full charge?

Depends...........I have brought some AGM from fire alarm panels back to life. And had near new amp hour capacity when load tested.
Other AGM's that had been too dry/too long. Or a different manufacture. There was zero improvement.
Not the safest experiment and I caught a "blast of wrath" from management even when wearing a face shield and gloves.
For the cost of the battery and the cost of man hours vs. uncertain returns and a possible "ka-boom". It's not really worth it.
Better to use a new AGM and make certain the max charge voltage is not exceeded. And a large enough AGM used so it is rarely discharged 1/4 to 1/3 at most.

This experiment is for 2 friends. Their motorcycle batteries went south. I do have a new charger, BatteryMinder 12248, designed for gell, flooded, and GAM.

I tried saving a couple overcharged and dried out Optima AGM batteries, drilled small holes in the top of each cell, injected about 50 CC of distilled water in each and plugged the holes with silicone rubber.
It did not work, the damage was already done. A couple of cells that were shorted and would not hold a charge, remained that way.
The horse was already out of the barn as they say.:)
