Round bale of oats

The oats was in the milk stage when I round baled it. Is it safe to feed this to beef cattle
without having any problems? Thanks for any input.

Art B, Sounds to me like you Baled them at the perfect stage!!! Little to No Shatter. IMO Most people wait Waaaaayyyyy toooooo long to bale Oats. Their are over Mature so the seeds shatter out when balled!
Yes the rule of thumb is Dough stage, but inevitably due to the time of year that oats come off, weather conditions, and most people where I am from do not own their own equipment then have it laid down in the Milk stage. Your hay is perfect IMO!!!
For yearling cattle comming off the truck as 400 cwt Stockers. 6 to 12 hrs of NO water and All the Oat hay they can eat.....It just doesn't get NO Better for their health than that.

I agree. I bought some Oat rb bales to feed my cows last May. Luckily the cows eat it fine but in spots where I fed hay early last Fall I have volunteer spots of Oats because the hay was baled TOO LATE of maturity. Just like any other crop the sooner it's cut/baled maturity wise the higher the protein.

wisht I had a field full of oat hay. Cows will love it, and horses will too. oat hay is almost perfect as a complete ration for cows and horses.

You'd think you'd loose grain, but I had a field a few years ago that I cut and baled ripe. The combine broke down and I got totally p1ssed and went and got the haybine. Knocked them down and round baled them the next day. I had fewer volunteer oats where those windrows layed than I had behind the combine.

You will be fine,I used to feed oat hay, darn good feed when its in the milk stage. The Cattle I had would knock you down for it! Its like candy to kid. Good Feed.
