OT----Ford, Model B

Question---What years were the Ford Model B built? (I'm talking about the early 30's Mod B). My dad gave me the axle, springs, and wheels w/tires to build a trailer out of. Those steel-spoked wheels were 17". I remember that 'cause I sent to Mont Ward for new tires and tubes. And didn't the Mod B also have the first V8 engine?

32-34 was updated version of model A. Model 18 had first v8. Google Ford model B.

I believe the Model B was made starting in 1932.

Model B was 1932 only with 4 cyl. Model 18 had V8 .
1933-34 all cars were model 40s with 4 or 8 cyl. Trucks were BB 32 thru 32-34 with 4 or 8 cyl engine.

Was there any differences in the 32 B 4 and the 33 C 4? Cousin has a B4 pickup that belonged to the Kalkaska Co Road Commision.

Body style changed in 33---went to V grill, notched bumper.

Model B engine block had provision for a fuel pump as the B tank was at the rear of the car. The crankshaft was also bigger mains and rod journals. The head had higher compression(if you can call it compression!) The engine was rated 50HP over the "A's" 40. Part of the gain was from a vacuum and mechanical advance distributor.

The "C" engine added a full counter-weighted crankshaft under full oil pressure. The head was redesigned to accept the same water pump used on the V-8 which used 3 bolts and a mechanical seal. The "C" engine was not to be used in passenger service but was for trucks at the same HP as the B. The "C" design was built under Ford license in Russia for many years and helped win WW2. It also showed up in Korea on the wrong side.

The B 4 cylinder was a stopgap to keep Ford in the car business as the V-8's had a terrible problem with the sand castings and could not be made fast enough to keep the production lines going.

The X-8 was experimental and was not used in sales production. One of Henry's ideas. Two big problems with it. One, the crankshaft had to be to high in the chassis and second, the lower cylinders had oil burning problems.

I'm sure he learned enough to help build aircraft engines later.
