Radial vs bias tube

I didn't want to hijack the post below but it reminded me that I have been wondering about tubes too. I put a new tube in the 6.00-16 tri rib front tire on my Farmall H this week. The tube came from NAPA. The package said 'bias ply tire-do not use in a radial tire' or words to that effect but when I put the tube in I noticed that it has the word RADIAL in raised letters in the rubber on the side of the valve stem. This has made me wonder if there is a problem with having what is apparently a radial tube in what I think is a bias ply tire. Thank you very much for any advice.

Due to the difference in construction techniques, the "forces" that are in a bias tire are different than in a radial...at high speed. The two tire types have different "handling" characteristics and thus, you need to be watchful of tube type if you are using tube type tires...at highway speeds.

That said...and considering that you are dealing with a slow machine...I don't believe you have anything to worry about. IFFFFFF it were a highspeed machine, then that would be a different consideration.

Check your tire to be sure it is a "tube type" and not tubeless. If by chance it is a tubeless tire, I would pop in a tubeless valve and forget it.

Your "tire mileage" may vary.....

I put a pair of radial tires on the front of my H maybe 3 years ago. The least expensive tubes I could find were for bias ply tires, so that's what I used. No problems in 3 years.

If those radial tires were still on my truck, there is no way I would even consider running a bias ply tube in them, but a tractor that goes maybe 5 mph is way different than a truck that runs at 65 to 75 mph.

For things like a tractor and the low speeds you can use either type tube. But if you are running tubes in a truck tire you have to be sure to use the radial tube in radial tires but you can run radial tubes in bias tires and be ok but not the other way around

Tube rims do not hold air (almost never) when used as a tubeless. The rim configuration at the bead is way different! Jim

I bought a set of 14" impliment rims a few years ago and run cheesy little car tires on the front of my mowing tractor. Tubeless. I use no special dope or pucky on the bead. Not much weight on the fronts though.
I've had a couple of punctures since I put them on and was able to fix them with a plug.
Nice not to have to break them down and patch a tube.
