Boiler burner was kicking off randomly (needed reset)... Burner sticks thru the door and hangs on slots then has two screws to tighten it... tighten the screws and it'll run a few minutes and stop... The more you reset it, the shorter it will run.... Had the burner out so many times this morning that the last time I guess I forgot to tighten the screws...

Ran good for a couple hours and I was gonna put the covers back on.. tightened the screws and it quit in about 10 seconds.. loosened the screws about a quarter turn (just a little play) and it is still running. I had cleaned everything and checked the numbers on the air vents and all is good, tighten the screws and it quits.....

Any ideas??? Gonna be changing the whole heater soon, just gotta decide to go new or a complete low mileage (??) Buderus setup that I've had for 3 years lookin for the rountuit... Just trying to milk this one along til I have a little vacation next month.

Thanks, Dave

Is it a gun type of burner?
Can you watch the flame as you tighten down the screws?
Does it change the alignment between the flame and the sensor?
Can you try to shim the burner assemble at the mounting slides so you don’t change the angle of the burner as you tighten the bolts?
Have you done the setup procedure on the IRD 1010 detector?

Go to the link and download a troubleshooting guide on safety controls, use the index to find the IRD 1010 for setup procedure.

Thanks!!! Blocked here at work, but I'll look at it tomorrow... Will also take a couple pics because I can't find anything online.....

Replace the burner gasket. Some of these blame new ones are so thin you might need 2 but they are cheap. You have a safety tripping. If it still trips after the gasket change & you can find out which one it will help. Check your flame sensor. Temp sensors are make or break so they're easy to check. The one that is open when it stops is what you're looking for.

Did the heater guy replace the nozzle? If so you need to make sure it's the right type & size. The letter is the type & the number is the bore. Get the wrong pattern & the fuel will burn in the wrong place. That's dangerous & you'll be lucky if it just shuts down..

replaced the nozzle myself with the correct one.... You said gasket... This thing is from 1997, if the gasket is flattened out could it just need the extra clearance of a new one??? That why it runs when I loosen the screws??

Could it be not getting enough air, and then when you leave it
loose it gets air in around the gun? Just a random idea.
