I have a case 4690 .I am trying to replace the draw bar so I can pull a scraper. The draw bar pin in the front is being a real pain.I need some kind of puller to get it loose. This thing is stuck,I have heard it should just fall out ,NO WAY.Has any body got any ideas.I don't want to take all of the three point off to remove this pin.Any help Thanks.

Recedntly I've 'fixed' two tractors with different ideas from mechaincs. First, one time I welded an attachment to a plug that absolutely weuld not come out. with the weld, I was able to teist and turn it ang get it out.
Yesterday, i could not get a bearing puller to fiti in, I worked and owrked, and finally went to O'Reilly Automotive for ideas. They rented me a big pitman arm separator, and I fitted the thin end in and whaled away with a 3# hammer. After about 10 mninutes, out she came.
Two ideas.

I responded to your earlier post saying that it must be held by hardened grease. The new information about pulling a scraper tells me that maybe the tractor was cleaned up well and then sat for awhile, so maybe the pin is rusted in. I went to the CNH parts look-up and verified that the pin should just drop out, once the retainer is removed. Rust in there would be very unusual, because usually there are oil leaks, plus the holes get egged out. So is it greasy or rusty?

Have you tried heating it up some (not red-hot or anything that extreme)... Just put it through an expansion/contraction cycle and see if that'll loosen it up...

Lots of good penetrating oil from the top side, let it soak and keep putting more on, and how about hitting on the drawbar with a big hammer on the rear to try to shock the pin loose. Have you been using the tractor drawbar under a load that would move it around some?

The problem is, you can't get to the top side unless you burrow through the transmission and drill a hole...

Can you remove the whole front drawbar bracket from the tractor and drive the pin out from the top?

Weld a nut to the bottom of the pin and use a slide hammer.

Use a backup hammer, hold a large hammer firmly on one side of the drawbar (near the pin) and smack the opposite side of the drawbar with another hammer sometimes that will jar the pin loose.

Can you weld a large nut on the bottom of the pin and while it is still hot, melt wax in from the top? Then try turning it, possibly with a good air impact. Worst scenario, might have to torch the drawbar off and find a replacement. Wayne
