dodge v10 engine


Yes, my Dads I have seen hit 10-12mpg. Its a 1999 4x4 extended cab 3500. Pulling a trailer about 6-8. It does have a lot of power compared to the 2005 Dodges we have at work with the 5.7. They get about the same mileage.

Anyone have any experience with the v10 in dodge trucks?

ive been keeping my eyes open for a new farm truck, horse hauler and just came across what i think is a good deal on a 98 3/4ton dodge but i have never really heard much on this engine.

im guessing its got loads of power for what i need but how horribly bad is the gas mileage going to be? will it get double digits empty? please say yes
 
Kinda like the guy askin what a rolls royce costs, if ya gotta ask you can"t afford it. LOL. I got one. Neighbors got one. Will get you about 10. Maybe 12 on the best of the good days. If your pullin a big trailer, You will like it.
 
I was told by a buddy of mine that got 9MPG in the city and 10 HWY. That V-10 gulps it down.

For a fact I know that the V-8 gets 14 mpg. Old coworker had one and he drove 25 miles each way to work. City/Hwy. He was really 8itching when it got over $3/gallon.
 
knew a guy that had one mileage 10-12 like they say plenty of power dodge boy forever 225 six in the old days good mileage and power then got 89 with 318 bad mileage good power THEN still got that one thought i had a powerhouse 2002 360 still no mileage decent power 2006 HEMI still not much mileage PLENTY of power 14-15 without trailer 9-10 with mileage and power not a good mixture good luck terry
 
yes i do have another vehicle as a daily driver buy am thinking about getting rid of my jeep and getting a small car because i have a 45 min hwy drive to work each way. I use my jeep to pull a utility trailer now but if i had the truck i could just use it.
 
I had a 1995 Dodge 3500 one ton dually. V-10 auto, two wheel drive. Pulled like crazy@ 9-10 mpg. Empty highway miles up to 17. Daily driving 12-14. Drove it for 225,000 and still running strong. Changed plugs once, kept transmission serviced, and never had any trouble.
 
If you don't need a bunch of power a Ford with a V8 should get better milage. I replaced my 80 F350 with a 96 Dodge 3500 with the V10. I use the truck to pull my mowing tractors. I don't know what kind of milage I get, but it pulls my trailer real good, and gets the job done, that's all I want. Where I live there are a couple fairly steep hills. My Ford would not go up, and I would have to make a detour around the hills. The Dodge doesn't hesitate one bit. Even with the not so good milage I think you will like the truck. Stan
 
Expect around 10mpg. My little 1500 extended cab 318 5 speed with 3:73 gears gets 17 highway If I baby it as much as possible, shift around 1700 rpm every time. Other then that they have just about as much torque as a stock cummins, and more horsepower. (stock cummins high output is 245 the v10 has 300hp) Torque 450 to 460 non high output cummins (505 high output).

v10 should serve you well.
 
thats the type of info i like to hear, ive been watching for a cummins for the right price but they are usually double what this v10 is and double the miles to
 
i have a buddy with one, think its a 2001 or 2, i told him to buy the diesel, he bought the v10 gasser, it does have power, but his average mpg is 5 to 6
 
If your're looking for something that gets lousy mileage with power, my neighbor is getting ready to sell a 98, 3/4 ton, extended cab, 4x4, long box, 454 Chevy that has +- 62,000 miles on it.
 
i had one and really liked it,got 10-12 normal driving and stuff pulling yea it went down some never really kept track because power and milage never did go together. boy will they pull and go thou. i had mine fully loaded with toolboxes etc. i lost it in a fire,it got so hot it burned into a horseshoe. now have the hemi,jut got bck from long drivewith it and it averaged 15-17 most all of the time
 
The V-10 had excellent power, torque, and longivity, but was a gas hog. This was the case with both Dodge and Ford V-10's in most cases.
