F150 extra's?

I needed a new truck so picked up a 2011 F150 Supercab XLT 2wd with the 3.7 for good gas mileage. Got $2500 recycle your ride for my 94 Ranger, $1000 Costco card discount on top of the $9500 rebate for a 2011. Figured it was a pretty good deal getting $13,000 off the original sticker price and getting a lot more than the Ranger was worth. A friend works as a diesel tech at the dealer so he'll get a $100 for referring me there. Really good place to deal with too, no high pressure, buy it right now BS like the first place I went to.

He says the $1540 5 year/100,000kms. service agreement isn't too bad of a deal and insures everything that should be done, gets done. I'm still undecided on that? Talking to him and reading a bit online, they don't think it's worth the money for undercoating, paint protection, scotch guard or rust protection. He says just washing the vehicle really good every couple of weeks is all that's needed since vehicles already come with some rust protection and some of the stuff you can do yourself for way cheaper. I'm not worried about any road noise, the truck is pretty quiet. Of course the woman that did the financing is trying to sell me on all this stuff(commission for her). If I wanted everything together with the service package is over $3600! Looking for opinions on what are worthwhile extra's to get on a new vehicle.

Thanks in advance.

money for undercoating, paint protection, scotch guard or rust protection

Scotch guard - you can go to the store and buy a couple of cans of scotch guard and do it yourself a lot cheaper.

Undercoating/rust protection - my thoughts this is not the 70's, if your in an area that uses salt, run throught the car wash on a regular basis - how many cars do you see rusted out as bad as you did in the 60s and 70s?

Paint protection - have not see a difference in cars that have it and those that donts

My credit union offered a better warranty agreement for less - shop around

Just my thoughts, others may have a different view from their experiences. For me the dealer is trying to recover on high profit items.

Check the owner's manual on undercoating.

Don't know about Ford, but GM's owner's manuals used to state (probably still do) that the factory rust-through warranty was voided if the vehicle was undercoated.

In fact, at a GM dealer I once worked for, a little old lady bought a new car and the overly ambitious salesman (not me) sold her on having it undercoated. The lady took delivery of the car, went home and read her owner's manual, came back and pointed out that specific line to the salesman.

Since there's no way to remove undercoating, the dealership had to give her another identical new car. They dumped the other one on somebody less astute that assumed it came from the factory that way.

Not all service agreements are the same. Is it a service agreement through Ford or some other third party? If its a third party I'd avoid it like the plague - "warranty" providers in the auto markets come and go like the the wind. Two years from now you'll file a claim and find out the company nolonger exists and the $1504 you spent is long gone.

One of the guys I work with bought an extended warranty on his new Dodge from the dealership. 4 years later the transmission dropped out like they usually do and he brought back to the dealer he bought it from. The warranty company was out of business and dealership didn't care he'd bought it from them - it was a personal matter between him and the now defunct warranty provider. Before he found out the warranty was worthless the dealership had already replaced the ruined transmission and presented him with the $4000+ bill for the repair (could have been half that anywhere else).

Aftermarket service contracts most of the time are a waste of your money. If you buy a new car makes sure it doesn't start until the factory warranty expires. No sense in paying for aftermarket coverage while the factory warranty is in effect. Best to get extended coverage from the manufacturer.
