Yesterday the First Day

New Year resolution and a promise to my GF that I would quit smoking. Seems like she wants me around for awhile to continue operating my tractors. Got those patches. Booklet enclosed warned of different affects for the first couple of days. Dificulty in sleep (they got that right, only 2 hours), concentration loss (always had that problem), and possible strange dreams. Had those for the 2 hours I did get to sleep. People I haven't seen nor heard of in 30 years along with finding a whole barn full of brand new letter seris Farmalls. I need to get back to that dream so I can find that barn.

Allen, can't do that, she's in the tractor dealership business. LOL, She's a keeper!!!!!!!!! Not because of the involvment with tractors. Just a great country gal.

Thats exactly my thoughts too! Used to smoke 1 1/2 packs a day for 12 years and after I quit I didn"t daretry one again and go through it again. Hang in there, it isn"t all about never having one but not having the next one.

Quit smoking? Nothing to it. I did it at least six times! (Then 41 years ago I did it for the seventh and final time.) LOL and hang in there!

Do whatever it takes.... get past the first few days and the rest is more in the head than the body.... Wife went to a 4 hour seminar that was advertised as (smoke free in 4 hours or money back)... Don't know what happened but it was 3 years ago (coming April) and she hasn't touched one.... No patches or any gimicks. You'll notice a weight gain if you don't keep yourself busy with something besides eating. And you'll enjoy eating more because you'll finally be able to enjoy the taste....

Best of Luck....

Its been close to 5 years and I really wish I had quit 30 yeears ago. Once you make your mind up it is easy but thats the hard part. All those so called aids are a crutch and really don't help that much.
make a list of all the benefits you get from smoking.- Then make a list of the benefits of not smoking after that tell us which you choose.
Actually think of it this way if you are in the hospital you quit while you are in there. Just don't restart when you get out and feel better.

With a girlfriend there are many ways to keep your mind off of smoking.

I quit in 1969 on the day I got married and went on my honeymoon. Cigarettes were then 23¢ per pack or $1.85 per carton. Think of how much money can be saved over a lifetime as well as the health benefits. Think about how much fun you can have keeping cigarettes off of your mind.

I also quit in 69. Pall Mall straights. Realizing that you were smoking to stay straight and financing BIG TOBACCO, made the decision easy and the resolution firm. Jim

Good luck to you Allen. My brother used to say, "Anybody can quit smoking - it takes a real man to fight lung cancer." He died of lung cancer in 1980 at age 44. I have to say that he was right - he fought it like a man, but it was a losing fight. Another brother (heavy smoker) died of a massive heart attack at age 50. Another brother (heavy smoker) died of lung/esophagus(SP) cancer, but he made it to age 70. I quit my heavy smoking habit in 1976. I can run farther today than I could when I quit smoking. The health benefits from quitting are obvious. Something is going to get us all, but we don't have to knowingly contribute to it.

Aaah, those Pall Mall straights, smoked them for over 30 years. I quit Feb 21 1992, so 20 yrs smoke free approaching. I have respiratory issues, but not lung cancer. It doesnt help that I am a welder on my "day job"

I smoked my last on Feb 7 2001. I didn't want to quit because I worried that I would always feel like I needed to smoke one. Kinda like a permanent cig jones. It turned out quite the opposite. The permanent feeling is like I had just smoked one. I feel great. All the time. When i wake up, when I go to bed, after meals. I have run 2 2milers, 1 5K, and three triathlons since including all the training up to these events. Get ready for food, cause it tastes tons different without the coffin nails.

Good job on making the decision just never go back and think you can smoke one, cause ya can't.

Aaron

After looking at several"grocery bills" for over $100, and just two little bags, I saw I was spending more for cigs than for food. State added a dollar, OB added 80 cents. I just wasn't going to pay the politicians and others $5.50 a day to poison me
I quit Chriatmas Day a tear ago and haven't had one cigarette since. I used the first two stage patches. And yeah, weird dreams.
I also put $5 a day into a jar. There's $1850 dollars in there now. My goal is 9000 dollars for areally nice little AH Fox 20 gauge shotgun.
I did gain 20 lbs, have lost 5 of that but doubt I can ever get back to the 165 I'd like to be.

Why don't you have her have a little talk with my wife. She used Chantix and quit quite successfully for a while. Said the only side effect was extremely vivid dreams. Hard to tell them from reality. But then she lost her job and got all stressed out and started up again. I told her when her unemployment ran out that she was going to quit because I wasn't going to buy them for her. She works just enough every two weeks to be able to buy her own.

Hang in there Alan. My wife & I both quit cold turkey last valentines day. We both smoked at least a pack a day for 50 years. It can be done. It's funny how those who have quit remember the day they did.

Thanks Guy's, have a great New Year. No doubts in my Former Military Mind that I'll do it this time. The GF said if I started again, I won't have to worry about lung cancer. I'll be gone before I get it.......

Hope I have the same dream as last night. Need to find that barn with the brand new letter seres Farmalls. I'll have to call CPT Kurk and Mr. Spok to see if I can use their telaporter to get them home.

Quit 20 years ago New Year's Eve.....smoked 40 years...Yeah, I'm 77 now. Lungs okay, but coronary arteries have plugged up...had to get angioplasty and 2 stents 9 years ago, had one of the first angioplasties before that in 1986.
Just you decide to be in charge of your life...not smokes.
Actually all tobacco oughta be banned...and every last trace of it destroyed.

July 30, 1987, 3:00p.m. After 25 years of following a pipe around all day I quit! Not pleasant, but sure glad I did!
