JD A hydraulics

I am buying a'41 JD A ,was going to put a 3pt hitch on it ,but have had input from people who know more than I do that it is not possible .Now i'm asking if the tractor is capable of working a lift cylinder on implements that I would be using with this tractor (tow behind rotary mower ,trailer plow etc).Anyone who would share their knowledge with me will be gratefully appreciated.

A Baker valve will take care of your problem for remote cylinders. If you want to run a 3 point off the rockshafts you will need to replace the "power lift" unit with a "power trol" unit.

Yes, it can be done but it takes 2 people and a hoist of some kind to do it due to the weight and then to buy the power trol it will cost you as much as you paid for the tractor, perhaps more and for the Baker valve you still have to pull the whole power lift unit to install it and very good luck trying to find one. Got our first Deere a 1937 A in 1957 and been around Deeres ever since and altho I have heard of the Baker valve since the 50's I have yet to see one. Your cheapest way to do what you want to do with your A would be to go out and buy a 1950 to 1952 tractor with the single stick tranny, gas engine (38 max pto hp compaired to your 29 max pto hp and still same size and burn less fuel for the work) and power troll and with that you would have a slow enough speed, enough horse power, able to use that remote cylinder and the ability to put a 3 point hitch on it and with the roll a matic front end you might have enough weight on the front to keep it on the ground with a lighter weight 2 bottom plow. The 2 stick trannys are a fast low gear that low in them equals second speed in the single stick models.

Rather than putting lipstick on a pig. Why don't you just purchase a 520 or 620 with a 3pt system?
The A is nothing special with trans driven pto, trans driven hydraulics, no practical rockshaft.Single barrel carb. No power steering.
How is it you are so stuck on an A ?

I don't know why the dude can't get it through his head. That he will spend more $$$ to purchase an A then hang a 3pt and Baker valve on an A. Then it will cost to purchase an all around superior 520 or 620.

All you need to do is change the Powerlift box to a Powertrol box for hydraulics.. They bolt right up. No need to change the complete housing.

My Dad bought me a used A in '55 when I was 5, am replacing a childhood memory. Only had it for afew months , a neighbor borrowed it and rolled it over several times on a sidehill. Ok so call me crazy

Have relooked at the photo of the rear of the A i'm buying , and the decal on the right side of the rockshaft unit says Powr-trol. Now what do I have. More or less of a problem?

There was also a pump that went under the magneto to do live hydraulic. There is an aftermarket 3 pth kit for them.
