Old Farm Talk

When I was growing up, my uncles and granddad had a few descriptive sayings. Can you add to the list?
1. When working of the truck engine, you had to "get over on-top-on-it."
2. If you were changing the oil you "get-up-under- neith-en-it"
3.The storage aria under the barn ramp was called "Under the over-shoot,"
HAPPY NEW YEAR Ed

When something happened that was a bit of a surprise Grandpa would say " Well, roll me in the dirt and call me Dusty" or he might say "Wouldn't that knock you hat in the creek". I miss him.

I would be trying to get lug nuts off a wheel and be going nowhere because I was pulling left and leaning left. My Dad would say, "You got to get your A$$ behind you". And he was right. I've told a hundred people that and they laughed and they did it and it worked for them.

My dad and Uncles were mostly old country German and 1/16th Creek Indian, they had a way of talking not many understood except us kids who were around them a lot. With Dad it seemed like every other word was "and" .All the tractors were called them, those, or that,The old truck was called it and the car was never mentioned.

My Dad always said "If you pick up a pony tail, your looking at a horse's a$$" There's times that seems pretty true.

In Northern NH as farm land that wasn't being farmed started to grow trees it was said that the land was "going back to the indians". A whole lot of it has.

And to describe completeness; "The whole routine"; "The whole nine yards" "The whole ball of wax" "The whole kit and kaboodle" or "Lock, Stock and Barrel"

My gradad had a few "Knee high to a billy goat" and "Faster than a spottoed A&& ape" "Gosh Darn it! and "Dead gum it"

1)ain't worth the powder to blow them to hell.
2)if our foresight was as good as our hindsight,we'd be ahead by a damn sight.
From my dad ,LAWRENCE ROBKE.

Wow......
Them"s the exact words my Dad always told me from the time I was a little kid.
"Son, get your a$$ behind ya".
I have never, ever heard anyone else say it "til I saw your post. Seems silly until you actually think about it.
Put you body between the work and your a$$ and you will be in the best position to get the job done.
Thanks for posting that one!!

If it were rainin hard, it was harder than a cow whizzin on a flat rock! note I used whizz, cause the potty filter wouldn't let me say p-i-s-s-i-n!

When I would ask a lot of questions, dad would say

Dont worry about the mule going blind, just sit on your A$$ and hold to the line
