Square D Qo vs. Hom

Any one know why Square D makes the 2 different breaker types?( QO and Hom) Any advantage to one over other? One desired over other in certain applications?

QO is commercial grade and mo' betta. Homeline, as the name implies, is a cheaper line intended to compete with the likes of Siemens. Both are good products.

Note that the two breakers are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. If you have a QO box, you must use QO breakers, and a Homeline box can only use Homeline breakers.

One nice feature of the QO breakers is a window that turns orange when the breaker trips.

I think the QC are rated to also be used as a switch. Example very large industrial/commercial facilities where when its time to shut down, they go to the breakers and cut the juice.

Home service, you turn them on and leave them. Very few on/off cycles.

Square D makes a lot more breakers then just two. The QO breakers are the only household breakers around that are rated for DC and AC. Homeline are AC only.

The QO panel and breakers do cost more than the Hom line. Dunno why but I always assumed QO was better. Whenever I've replaced a main or added a sub panel I always bought QO. Figured if I wasn't paying the labor for an electrician to install it I could afford to go first class on the equipment I used.
