Baling in December in WI

Noticed the neighbor was out trying to combine the beans on his land with a MF 35. The person renting it gave up on them because of weed issues and no one wanting to deal with the field after it was cultivated due to being organic. He was able to salvage about a 150 bushels out of it from 10-12 acres. He was just going to leave the "stubble" lay. So I asked if I could bale it up due a shortage of bedding in the area. Fired the baler up and got what I could off. Not bad for the December 28th in Central WI. No heatstroke today. 21 degrees with a nice breeze.

Second year we were in Wisconsin '01 or '02 our neighbor was excited, he was baling hay in Oconto first week of December, first time he did that in 67 years, said it took forever to dry but didn't bleach out or mold, he thought it was pretty good hay!

I've been cutting hay in northern Maryland, letting it lay for a few days, rolling it up and feeding it within about a week. Cows seem to like it as good as silage, and it's saving some hay, which is in very short supply around here. I've been doing 6 or 8 acres at a time, usually about 10-15 bales. They're green and heavy, but doesn't seem to heat too much in the cold air, and doesn't seem to be getting moldy. Just an idea to stretch some feed before the snows hit.

There are still soy beans IN Louisville and surrounding counties not harvested. The bean farm in Louisville near I-64 is worth millions I expect. They have sold off some of it. There is beans along Fern Valley road not taken. Don't know why.

It wouldn't work here in SE MN. You would get stuck in the mud.

Predicting almost 50F for Saturday and it's in the 40s today and more rain is coming. I'm sick of spring weather and it's not even January yet! :)

Crazy year for sure. We're only going to get up to 40 tomorrow. We got a heavy dusting yesterday with another dusting coming. So the baler is back in the shed.
