just received my granddads 1950 super a..could not get it started and decided to change it to 12 volts and in the middle of this project noticed the coil was wired what i beleve to be backwards. with a 6 volt pos. ground the + side of the coil was wired to the switch and the negative was wired to the distributor..am i correct ..thanks bobby

A coil will work either way but yes to work 100% you need to have the ground the same on it as the battery. But having it worked back ward is not why it would not start

Its supposed to be pos gnd and 6v and going to 12v wont make it start if 6v wont you need to see if you have fire at the plugs and then gas i9n the carb. Remember it ran before you got it and just setting there eithere gas all evaporated and left a scum or something like that or just as simple as the points needing to be sleaned you dont go changing voltage and wondering about the way its wired cause it ran when parked.

so the coil will work either way or is one better than the other..i have it neg. ground and neg. hooked to dist..it seems to run fine...thanks

(quoted from post at 20:08:33 12/27/11) The pos on the coil goes to the same place the batt pos goes. If the batt poss goes to the switch so does the coil. If the pos on the batt goes to the ground then the pos on the coil goes to the ground via the points.
