Deere can't swim out of pond..

BIL Deere 455 could not swim out of pond. He was sliding into the pond so he shut her down and jumped off to try and scotch it. While getting some brick that was nearby it just slid right on in. Good thing it stopped when it did. Pond is 10 ft deep at it deepest point. Got her out and she is back up and running now. Everything was covered in mud. No water entered the fuel system or the hyd but the engine did have water in it. I guess it came in through an open exhaust valve.

Some folks shouldn't be allowed to handle any machinery more complicated than a ball pein hammer. Not saying that you BIL is one of 'em.............

Turf tires and mud do not mix. After you load up the turfs with mud its like you are on ice. Then you start that slow slide down the pond bank, spinning only helps you slide into the pond quicker. Have watched the neighbors do this more than once.

I have never gotten mine wet, but I have been stuck 3 feet away from the edge of my pond. I don't go near unless the ground is dry, and I still stay off the bank.

Why? The mud will wash off, its the "walk of shame" back to the barn to get the tractor and rope, the whole time the wife is snickering.

Does that thing have dry band brakes? If it does, pull those covers off and get them dried out. I fixed a 750 I think it was,for a church one time. Had to drag it in to the shop with the wheels sliding. I don't know if they had bought it someplace after it had been through a flood or what, but the covers had been full of water at one point and everything was rusted up tight in there.

Be very careful about how you get that deere out of the pond. Near Baltimore last year, a deer went through the ice, and two idiots in a boat rescued it. Of course, they were afraid it might drown. All the do-gooders on the bank and the news media cheered. But the safety nazis at DNR gave them a ticket for not having a life jacket on (the water was over a foot deep) and the local jacka$$ judge gave them both a $40 fine. So make sure you have your water wings on when you rescue that deere, or make sure the wildlife folks don't catch you--
