Here in Highland, Il. it's sunny and 45°, tomorrow it's supposed to be in the mid to upper 50's. May have to put my Santa suit on and take a ride on the motorcycle! Sure doesn't seem like Christmas but I'm getting in the mood!

JohnB, about the same weather here in Galesburg today. Any idea what they might feature at the show south of town this year? I heard it will be the 25th show. Might try to make it down.

I think I like it, my BIL has gone to Ca. and I"m feeding his horses. Sure is easy not having to walk his hose out after watering them. Oh I am just East of you at Barnhill Il. Merry Christmas Vic.

Stephen - how old are you? I had a friend from work who was a Cairoite. His name was Comer Phillips. Comer would be about 64 if he was still living.

I'm 56. I'm afraid I don't know Comer. It's possible my brother-in-law may know him, he's 65.

I left Cairo in 1973 just before it started failing. The city is in very bad shape today. Most of the downtown district has been torn down and most of the industry is gone. The picture is of eighth street and commercial which was the most industrious intersection of the town when I lived there.

If you get on 255 come as far north as you can and make a left.1.5 miles on the right hand side of the road look for the gray flat bed in the driveway.Got some a goooooddd bottle of Christmas cheer and fresh shrimp.Enjoy your ride.

Yeah, I know - it's sad - Cairo was once a bustling beautiful city. I remember riding through Cairo about 1953 and seeing the first bale of cotton I'd ever seen. I think there used to be a gin on the north edge of town. I've worked there a few times - put new traffic signals in by the old State Police station on the south end and also at the 3/51 intersection on the north end - probably around 1994 or so. Comer was a mess - your BIL probably remembers him - he was unforgettable. Comer was the engineer in charge of a nice street restoration project in the old downtown area of Cairo - new brick street, period lighting, etc. Looked like it could be near the area of your photo. I live about 70 miles north, out in the sticks south/east of Chester. Merry Christmas to you and yours Stephen.
