Trapping gophers

When Dad was farming he would pay me 25 cents for each gopher I cought. I had a after school job in the 50's trapping gophers for a dary farmer. I think I got around 75 cents a hour. Which wasen't bad then. I have been trapping gophers on our church grounds recently. If the gopher enters the trap right he is hooked in the lungs, and dies quite fast. Sometimes I pull a gopher out still alive hooked by a leg, or cought in the gut area. Maybe I am turning into a old softy, but I don't like the idea of a animal suffering a slow death in my tap. just think of the agony of a plugged sickle cutting hay and then it's easier to rap them on the head, cut off their front feet and give the body to the cats
 

I used to have a lot of critters around here. For some reason when I got this Cur dog they all disappeared.

nice looking cur!! my neighbor has a catahoula, yuma, that rascal is just an absolute riot of a dog. always busy doing stuff, great mouser, gopher getter, crow chaser ect. heres a couple pics of yuma coming over for a golf cart ride with mil, and him in action getting mice out of the f-30
