UPDATE Home DVD Burning Problem

Okay, update time. So, a while back I burned several DVD videos and most worked on peoples home DVD players just fine with video and audio HOWEVER a few 'dudes" reported they had video but no audio........

Im using Windows 7 with Windows Movie Maker and I tried some of the hints yall suggested butttttttttt it wouldnt let me change the recordring format to MPEG etc it does AVI (or is it WMV??) ONLY with no options NOR does it let me choose open or closed sessions. It finishes the DVD then it finalizes n spits it out and it works on MOST folks DVD players. I tried Real Player (basic free version not the upgrade) and Corel Video Suite but couldnt get them to work right NOR did I find that they will allow open or closed or MPEG formats either, both were AVI I think.

SOOOOOOOO Im at Office Depot today to buy some blank DVD's and they have DVD - R and DVD + R (thats what I used before) and I ask this under 25 nerdy lookin pimpled pencil necked geek store clerk WHICH SHOULD I USE tellin him how some didnt work before in some DVD players. He tells me older DVD players required DVD - R while the newer ones will play either + or - ????????????

SOOOOOOO Im recording DVD- R now and so far they play fine in my DVD so I will pass some out to those who couldnt get them to work before and if they do maybe that pimpled pencil necked geeky kid knew what he was talkin about

MORE TO COME

All the newer players and burners work with + R and - media.

I'm surprised your computer doesn't have Nero 7 (or higher) on it. Seems it comes standard on most Windows based computers. One of those give-aways like Internet Explorer. Nero will convert the WMVs or AVIs to MPGs and also give you the choice or closed or open session. Generally speaking for stuff you're giving away - it should always be close session.

I still use a camcorder with a tape-drive. I run the tapes into Windows Movie maker to get them on my hard drive. They get saved in WMV. Then I run Nero and convert to MPGs and then burn. Never had one yet that I gave out that had a compatibility issue.

I've got a TV tuner on my computer that also saves everything in WMV. I wish it didn't . Again, I convert all with Nero before burning.

A few years back many computers came with Easy CD Creator that also worked great. But at present, Nero seems to be in vogue.

I have had two DVD burners. Both were rated for both +R and -R. The first would only burn -R and the second would only burn +R. Go figure. In general, +R technology is mo' betta, but use whatever happens to work for you.
