Started cruising through photo ads tonight...can't decided which deal to take: The $2250 IH SW6TA with a stuck engine; don't see 'em on every corner but still the engine is stuck so maybe $1000 tops?
BIG WINNER here: $4000 AC B with car tires and wheels in the front, ragged looking, useless turfs on the rear and a boat anchor mid mount mower...being as a totally and completely restored AC B is about an $800 tractor.
The $4000 '51 JD A with no rollomatic, patched hood...well being as the BEST FULLY Restored late A is at best a $2000 tractor I don't know...
Makes that real darn nice $4850 JD 630 look pretty tasty huh?

Ohhh geez, sorry I missed something: must be that big ol' attractive GM alternator hanging outta the side of the A that really bumps the value!

Yeah that Allis Chalmers B for $4000 is extremely out there. I see some selling in used running condition for $1500, but that is a world from the $4000. Some people ask high prices on Craigslist at times for %2500, yet, we generally see them advertised a few wekks to months later for more reasonable prices. I understand the practice of asking a high starting price, knowing that you will be coming down, but, if it's not even close, the tractor is going to be on the market a long time.

I bought a B a few years back for around $700, but it had a stuck engine and a flat worn rear tire on a split rim. Sure the stuck engine on a B is a quick fix, 30 minutes of rocking the crank back and forth till it frees. If you squirt anything but diesel into the cylinder to aid in freeing, make sure you squirt diesel into the cylinder when you free it up to prevent it from sticking on you again. Either way, while an Allis B is a great tractor, and worth every penny of the reasonable price of $1200 - $1500, if it is in running and usable condition, it is not a gold mine.

I have a pretty fair John Deere G 1951 that I have been offering @$2500 and it don't seem to sell. I don't know what to ask? I did sell some junkers last week. Maybe that's what I out to do with the G?

What about the restored Farmall C the guy had on Craigslist a few months ago for $16,500?

As has been said before, some people think that just because something is old, it is worth a lot of money. They have never read the next paragraph that says that an item has to meet certain criteria to qualify. A late neighbor of mine a few years ago had a 64 Valiant 4dr sedan, plain jane model. He thought it was worth a fortune. Had it been a 2dr hdtp or convertible, maybe yes, but a 4dr? Not!
