my neighbor raises these bulls for his familys freezer, The calves are going to replace the big ones when he butchers, They like the bull meat it is lean, and they like to mix some of the meat with pork and they make a link sausage

I don't know. Just for the sake of arguement, anybody who says they "prefer" bull meat is too afraid to castrate them in my experience.

I cant say,I dont know ,but they are PA dutch and do cook different dishes than the way some cook beef, I have eaten there many , many times, always good tasty food, but they dont grill steaks they are cooked differently.

I had a 14mo. old bull that didn't get banded properly as a calf. He was feed the same as the 14mo. old steers in his group. At butcher time we could not tell any difference in the taste of the meat. My dad also said there would be a big difference in the taste but at that young age there didn't seem to be. He was a little more roudy then the steers as we raised him. I do know I wouldn't like the idea of them missing out on the de-horning process and having horns. Just my presonal preference for saftey reasons I guess. Especialy on a bull. Thanks for the nice pictures. Like some of the others, you do a nice job.

leaner because they holstiens maybe?bulls because it makes no difference?correct me if I'm wrong by all means ,but making one a steer only makes it grow faster.they may save some money by making steers of them simply because they dont have to feed them so long.

ot so,Bulls grow faster than steers.
The reasons for castrating bulls is steers wont fight as much a bulls and don't ride each other as much either.
A young virgin bull tastes the same as a steer but a bull is usually somewhat leaner, that goes for all breeds.

my 2c

now there you go,been raising cattle for 60 years, been wrong all along i guess. i always castrated them so i didnt have to keep them in the feedlot as long, bet i dont ever band another one! maybe I should have said "gain weight faster"?. all that fighting ,shoving each other around, jumping and all tends to keep the weight(and fat) off i would think. sort of like me setting around and you working every day! LOL
