Wildblue Dish satellite internet

We've had satellite internet for 14 months now and when it was at its best it was nothing to brag about. It is REALLY BAD during early evening hours but lately it's slow most of the time. I called a couple weeks ago and they didn't really care but I could upgrade which I declined---it's already $50/month above the cost of TV bill. I think our phone company has DSL available now. Is anyone using Embarq internet with a land line? They have a "special rate" which requires some bundling of services and you need a microscope to read the details of the offer.

I need to get this resolved so I can buy some tractor parts.

Yeah, we've been through the same sort of thing. When we are in Florida, we have problems which we haven't resolved yet but the good news is we are not going to Florida this year. Here in Virginia, we found the best for us was to use our local phone company's DSL ($39.95 / month) and to use Direct TV for our television. We have looked into various "bundles" but we have found none that offer all we need or if they do, the price requires a second mortgage. They do not make it easy for you. LOL

I"m satified with our Qwest/Centurylink DSL.The price is a dissatisfaction point with me. They charge too much for the service rendered I think. We have no weather related issues here in the Arizona Desert.

We went through the same thing with wild blue, at first I was very satisfied but it got worse over time. We now have century link and I like it.

I went through the same off an on. Got real slow between 5 PM and 7 PM (when many more users were on). I had Hughes.net but it's the same uplink-downlink SAT system as Wild Blue.

I just got rid of it yesterday after four years. I installed a Yagi 1900 MHz antenna and a cell-phone amp and I'm now using Millenciom wireless (with a Verizon plan). Works much better then I anticipated. Much better then my satellite system.

If you live in a area where your cell phone works at all (even if weak) you can make this system work.

JD,
Throwin the balls up in the air about what to do. "Maybe" DSL or a Verizon wireless package (cellphones now).
"Real Rough" number for the Verizon MiFi? I'm sure it's going to be different in different parts of the USA.

I am amazed that Wild Blue stays in business, it was the worst service I ever paid for, period. Have AT&T DSL now and it is 10 times faster and 100 times more reliable at 1/4th the cost.

I have had Centurytel which is now Centurylink for several years. I have had very few problems with this DSL service. Emparq is also part of Centurylink.
I would suggest you stay away from bundled service if you can.
If you don't have a land line now ask about DSL only service.

I can't get DSL or cable here. Neither will ever be an option in this area.

Millenicom supplies the wireless service for Verizon and Sprint.

Go to Millenicom's Website, punch in your address and find out what is available where you live.

You need to find out if the Verizon towers or Sprint towers are strongest in your area and then pick the plan. "Advanced" 3G plan allows 20 GBs per month and uses Verizon towers and costs $60 per month. The USB modem works in one computer - or with many if you use the correct router.

The "unlimited" 3G plan is $70 per month with unlimited useage but only works on Sprint towers.

There is also the 4G plan for $80 per month but coverage is poor in rural areas. 4G also runs on a totally difference frequency then your talk-phone.

I am like you dsl not an option and have HAD wild blue for 4 years. Seems it has reall go worse in the last 4 months or so. Lookin at the cell phone thing now just got some good info here from your replies. Have strong verison signal here so guess that is the way we will go . Going to have to have somethin with wireless router but maybe can get that worked out.
