stretching woven wire

i would like to build some woven wire fence but i remember building some about 20 yrs ago having a problem with it stretching evenly the top half might be tight abd the bottom half alot loser.i was using two oak 2x4 sandwiched around the wire to pull with.i assume i needed maybe 2 comealongs one on top one on bottom to get it stretched evenly.i noticed some guys stretch it around a corner then keep going for a ways.i always stopped at the end post cut then took off again. how do you guys do it.
thanks RICK

My ground's pretty level, so I don't have much trouble with uneven stretching. Your idea of two come-alongs will take care of it.

I pull just past the corner post, nail to the post to maintain the stretch, then go on down the next stretch. Really no need to cut at each corner- I just splice when I run out of roll (which is much too often, given the price of the stuff).

Get any piece of pipe or steel post and weld three "hooks" one direction and a loop in the middle the other direction.

rick I just stretched some in the last month on un even ground you need 2 come alongs to get even stretch i also had such a short slope going down to drive htat i cut bottom wire and spliced it for bottom 3 I used these crimpiong sleeves they work pretty nice and dont look bad as the old rtwist wires togather I stopped at corners for the distasnce i was stretching thought it best

The fence streacher kits always came with two streacher units and that is long before the commalongs were thought of and they would pull tighter than any comealong I have. Have several sets of streatchers and a couple of the steel clamps but have not used them for 40 years.

When I did my goat pin I used 2 com-a-longs one at the top and the other at the bottom so as to pull good at both top and bottom. I used a fence post put threw the wire so I could get a good pull point both top and bottom and had a cat 950 to use an an anchor for the com-a-longs but a tractor set side ways will also do
