Here's some pictures of me turning under an alfalfa field this fall in Tippecanoe County, IN. It's just a cell phone camera so they're not the greatest.

It looks a little wet in this picture but there was a heavy frost that morning so it's just a little sticky on top.

The Massey 880 6-18 on-land works really well with the 4630. It was actually my first time running it. There isn't much plowing anymore so I enjoyed even just these 5 acres.

Thanks

What did you plow up in the first pic? Looks like a box laying there in the freshly plowed ground.

Oh and here's two more of it sittin' in front of the tool shed.

I think that "box" was a piece of roof metal. Wasn't anything interesting cause I don't remember it!

Thanks

Well back when grandpa had it tuned they ran it on a 230HP dyno and it went past that number so they just left it! Not sure what it's still at because that was 30 years and 5,000 hours ago, but she's still healthy to say the least! It got a new head at some point and had some tranny/rear end work somewhere along the line but I don't know the specifics, it was all before I was old enough. It's a 1977 with 5400 hours. I'm a 1991 model year ;-)

If it had been me plowing, I would would have ended up noticing it, because stuff like that always seems to end up stuck in one my tires! :(

1 Dollar,

Wondered about the HP on that tractor. Dad still tells stories about running a JD 4630 Quad Range that was turned up over 200 HP pulling 6-16's in C2 all day long. I kinda figured if you were pulling a 6-18 plow it had been turned up a bit, sounds like it is near the max if it maxed a 230 HP dyno.

Can't tell for sure by the pics, but it looks like this tractor is a Quad Range? I can only see one shift lever in the pics, but it looks like the Range selector. Good looking tractor, I spent plenty of time growing up in 4630's.

I owned one similar to the one you picture. Extra fuel tank. Mine would over heat in the summer so I added a extra small radiator with electric fan mounted in front of the extra fuel tank. That solved the over heating problem. 20.8 X38 dual radial tires sure helped the traction problem.
