Daughters 02 Grand am-after you turn off or cancel the turn signal the flasher-stat clicks afew times. Maybe once, twice, ten..., as much as it feels like. No lights are flashing, I checked. Just the annoying rapid clicking of the flasher. The fast kind like when a bulb is out. Oh, and not every time. Just when it wants. What gives?

Tom,

I'd replace that flasher.

They aren't the old bi-metal mechanical type anymore. More of an electronic 'module'.

We had that happen in a 94 Chevy pickup and I'm picking my brain to try to remember what caused it. After the turn signal cancelled the flasher would click like it was on steriods for a short time. Come to think of it, the pickup went to the salvage yard before we found the problem. I'm just rambling away as I think about it. If you think it out, there's gotta be juice still getting to the flasher after the switch comes back to neutral. This Chevy had the old style flasher and signal mechanism under the steering wheel. I always thought the problem might have been in the steering column. Then there's the four way flasher tied in too. Does this Grand Am have the four way button under the steering wheel yet or is it a remote switch somewhere. If it's separate like on the dash, then the turn signals might operate through a separate switching module somewhere and that could be acting up. I dunno, just aimlessly rambling on. Jim

Almost all the new vehicle's controls work on the ground side of the circuits. Sounds like your turn signal switch is grounding out internally and not thru the turn signal circuit. It's not sending the signal thru the the light circuit would be my guess.

Put your ear up to the button in the center of the dash. Can't remember for sure but I think it's the emergency flasher control & the clicking is coming from it. My daughter's 02 Grand Am had the same problem & I had to change that to fix it. Put a used one in & it only lasted about six month's so it was a do over. Her's started out acting up after using the turn signal like your's, but it got to where just cranking the car set it off.
