Block heater cord 7.3 Powerstroke

A recent discovery if you're interested...Block heater cord from a Caterpillar 3304 will fit your Power Stroke, for about $75 less. (P/N 9N5253) Also, the pipe thread on the element is the same, but the length of the element might be different. Ask the man to pull one out (P/N 2P8821) and compare it to yours. It might be worth the trouble if you're still reeling from the prices at your Ford dealer.

Newer GM diesels (since 07) have a thermal switch in the heater cord. Cord won't work ABOVE 0F. Most owners don't know that. Duramax start well cold. even with bad glow plugs. They did the termal switch so the computer doesn't set false codes when the ECM "sees" air temp at 10F coolant temp 10F and fuel temp at 80F. The trucks were going into limp mode and driving us monkeys in the shop nuts till we figured it out. (GM has never admited a mistake) I questioned why they just couldn't change the ECM programing of what is right and wrong to see that the cord is in use and to allow those data imputs as normal under conditions.

Yeah, that's for darned sure!!!!!!!!!!!

You're probably not old enough to remember, but back when the 700R4 came out, they would blow the front pump seal and empty the tranny of oil. WAS ALWAYS THE TECH'S FAULT and he caught he!! over it time and time again

They never did fess up to the inadequate design flaw in the drain-back circuitry or make any restitution whatsoever to those poor brow-beaten techs. Just sent out a tsb to drill out those oil passages. :>(

yep i ve been there with pump seals blowing out. I also put the pump seal retainer on the pump cover that a 4L60E uses too.

I hate the early 700's. 82-86 are bad. won't even touch em. the 87 to 93 were better design. still don't like em. You can rebuild those lil suckers perfect and they still blow up from a problem with the TV cable or sticking TV Boost valve.
