Long 510 similar to Ford

I have a Long 510 and this thing is similar to a Ford tractor. The transmission levers and transmission and rear end all look very similar. Is this by chance or are they somehow related? I've been wondering after seeing my neighbors Ford/New Holland 3010.

Thanks,
Morgan

Its a eastern European copy, of the older Ford 3000 tractors, IIRR. Long was located in NC, and imported the base tractor from overseas, recently went under, good luck getting parts, some may be similar to Fords, try this question on the Ford board, they will know more than lil ole me!

The tractor was made in Romania, basically a Fiat design. Uzina Tractorul Brasov, Translated Universal Tractor, Brasov. The Ford parts that will fit are probably the fuel filters and the thermostarter element, that's about it. But it often was a good tractor. Now probably 30 years old, at least.

I wouldn't think the 510 or any of the Long or
Longtrac would be similar Ford. That series and the
Hesston tractors were Fiat based and maybe related
to the New Holland TNA series. The Long Farmtrac
series should be basically Fords with Ford engines,
trans, brakes, hoods, etc. The company that made
Fords & New Hollands for about 20 years seemed to
continue that line of tractors , calling them
Farmtrac, after Fiat got the rights to build NH.
(Based on two Wall Street Journal articles).

total Fiat tractor made tractor in Romain. the hesston tractor are a fiat tractor also and have some common things with the long.

longs are junk. ford is great. i would never buy a long after the experiance i had. i bought a long 610 from a apple orchard with about 1000hrs and i put about 10hrs on it and oil started pouring out the blow by tube. took it apart and had 2 destroyed pistons. i did put the motor and front end back on but now its sitiing in a barn unfisnished for the last 10 yrs and i think it is locked up now. someday i may finish and get rid of it.

I traded for this tractor and haven't used it many hours. Seems to run and work well though. It takes more than one experience for me to say an entire manufacturer's products are junk.
