I found an eight horse Troy Built wood chipper on Craigslist. He said he had trouble getting new blades from Troy and wanted to have a machinist make a couple. He wants $200.00 and from the picture looks to be in good shape. I'll know more if I look at it. Any information on replacement blades? Would you buy it?

If you cant find the blades then have them made with heat treated and tempered tool steel. About a 40Rc hardness would be good.
If you have a print to go off of it would be very helpful for the machinist.

Isn't Troy Built an MTD product. If so, then maybe an MTD chipper of about the same year and size would work.

I bought a new 8 hp troy built a long time ago. It was a BPIA to use. You can only chip straight limbs. It was very loud. Stopped using it after a few years, was in the garage for many years. Finally found someone on craigslist to buy mine for $200.

We have a place 3 miles away that takes everything but stumps for free. After a storm this spring, I hauled 17 6x10 ft dump trailer loads of branches.

That's when I decided a 8 hp chipper was worthless and sold mine.

I bought one back in the 80's and used it for shredding sweet corn stalks. I found out it did a better job if I put the stalks in a big shock and let it dry. I didn't have it long and the bearings went out. The dealer replaced them. Hal

i fixed a set of steps fpr a guy and he gave me one of those in payment,it doesnt chip very well.real slow,I gave it to my neighbor he uses it to vaccuum leaves it was called a troy bilt chipper vac I would have rather got paid for the step repair, but it was that or nothing

Not sure which model you have. Mine is a chipper/shredder. The shredder is top loaded with flail type blades. Easy enuff to re-sharpen. 2" x 4" x 1/4 with simple notch at end to do the cuttin.
The chipper is a side mount/feed. It has one cutter blade ona heavy flywheel. That could be fabbed by any good machinist.
Hope that helps, and for 2 bills, worth a shot.
