Hey LJD, ON Topic even

I'm attending the Arcadia Florida Bus Nuts Rally (RV Bus Conversions) over New Years weekend and heres a Seminar I'm looking forward to:

Promise of Lithium Ion Batteries

Don't miss this one! Chris Dunphy & Cherie Ve Ard have just installed their own bank of 500 amp hours of Lithium and will talk about the trade offs of lithium vs. lead acid. They are not selling anything....just sharing information and first hand knowledge.

I currently have 375 AH of lead acid storage in my RV, it will be interesting to hear what they have to say about Lithium Ion

Can't say I have much first-hand experience with them. Prices seem very high though. I'm still using Nickel-Metal-Hydride batteries in my Ryobi power tools and see them adverstising the Lithium Ion replacements for a LOT more money. If twice the price they ought to do at least twice the work - in my opinion.

The newest Lithium-Ion batteries have a very low self-discharge rate so for some people, they might be worth the extra cost. Self-discharge should not be an issue though in an RV or solar bank that gets constantly recharged.

Who knows what will come in the future? The BIG breakthrough in battery technology will be when someone creates a variable-capacity battery. That has been a HUGE issue many people have been working on.

J T,
My experience are with 18v dewalt lithium Ion, Ni-cd and NI-MH are:
1. You can't give me a Ni-cd.
2. Li-ion are over priced, better than Ni-cd, lighter, go dead without warning, and only hold half the charge of Ni-Mh.
3. You may check this out to make sure I'm right, Ni-Mh batteries are used hybrid cars. You can go to ebay and get a 18v Ni-Mh for $45+$10 shipping. The battery is a 3 amp-hour. Can't find any made by dewalt. These batteries come from china, however dewalt and delta products are also made in china. I've owned Ni-Mh longer than I've had Li-ion. Will only buy Ni-Mh batteries in the future. My Li-ions lasted 2x-3x longer than Ni-cd. The Ni-Mh is like the everyready bunny...keeps going and going and charges up to a full charge.

You may want to check out BatteryMinder, $120 for the 2-4-8 amp model and keep your golf cart batteries in healthy shape.

I never thought you couldn't remove sulfides from battery plates, until I built my own and have had good results.
