So, I walk into our local h h greg appliance store today to buy a TV AFTER all the crowds are gone, but not one of the 6 young idle clerks would wait on me, so I came home and fired off this letter to corporate headquarters plus sent an instant e mail. THINK I WILL GET A REPLY??

Maybe I"m old fashioned or becoming a grumpy old man but I will be darned if Im going to beg some young pimpled pencil necked geek of a clerk to take my money, I expect to be waited on, a little customer service, is that too much to ask??? Am I the bad guy for reporting this???

Heres the e mail/letter I just sent....

Today Wednesday Nov. 30 at 2:40 PM I walked into the h h Greg Store in Bloomington, Indiana. There were only 2 customers in the store and there were 6 totally unoccupied clerks hanging out near the desk idle chit chatting which I walked right past in plain view to look at televisions. For 10 minutes I walked around and around in plain view hoping to get waited on (I was going to buy a TV) or asked if I needed assistance or could they help me. Anytime one came near they put their head down to avoid me and walked past NEVER OFFERING TO HELP ME. I waited longer and still not one of the 6 idle clerks would even look my way or offer service. Finally I asked the group ARE THERE ANY MANAGERS HERE, they all looked befuddled and pointed to one young man who finally said yeah I am. I asked why no one would wait on me and he still never offered to help me or apologized but agreed "yeah that’s not good for business

John T maybe an old grouch lol

No your not old and grumpy, dem dair kids was all tired from occupying something or another. I just window shop den go home and order from Sears. No hassles.

Those "pimpled pencil necked geeks" May have felt a sense of insecurity when they approach a man of your stature probably in their mind you were going to ask questions that they could not answer.
Bet though if a miniskirted young chick walked up beside you she would have has all the loafers helping her out.

I usually get the other result. I go in to look around and maybe not even buy anything and get darn near attacked by salespeople. Maybe complaints from people like me led to them not mobbing you ?

p.s. I personally have not complained.

Hey there Roy, youre probably right about them waiting on some young babe, but not sure if Id hold that against them now lol I was young once.

I hear ya! I"ll not often beg anyone to take my money. I have on a few such occasions asked in a loud voice "Is this place open for business?" TDF

Had the same experience the very last time I had anything to do with Sears. It was break time. Did the same thing with an email. Never heard back, never WENT back. Wasn't the first such incident with Sears, but it was the last for me.

ACTUALLY one of them was indeed playing with his phone, I was that close to them and tried to make eye contact but none dared to look my way let alone offer to help me grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I know how you feel, John. I once went in to a local farm store and wasn't waited on or even acknowledged for about 15 minutes. I used to work at the same store and if someone came in I would say hello to them and offer to help them before they took ten steps in the store. After I had been in the store those 15 minutes and not finding what I was looking for I went up to the front and told the manager "I was back there for over 15 minutes and nobody waited on me or even said hello. The only way anyone here would have known I was even there is if I had died and started to stink". I told him I didn't have to come into that store. His eyes got really big and the next time I went in the store they about tripped over each other to wait on me, which really steamed me then because it seemed "put on". Now it's like it used to be there...nobody seems to notice or care. Many complain about it. And another thing that really bothers me is when they take my money they don't say "please" OR "thank you". I don't OWE them my business and I at least like to be thanked for it. Sure, it's old school. But that is NOT a bad thing. Mike

I bought a washer and dryer at Sears in Brighton, Michigan a couple years ago. Service was excellent, but the salesman was older than dirt. Had to be way over 70!! :)

Don"t feel alone, here"s a copy of a post I made earlier on another forum

For a rare moment today, I was in the mood to go shopping and actually buy something. Drove to the mall, and for the first time, visited a national chain sporting goods store. Found the gun department, where two young male clerks were apparently in charge. I stood at the counter while they were busy discussing their upcoming evening plans. Hmmm....one minute, two minutes, three, four, five minutes, and neither of them have even acknowledged that I"m standing there.

Just then, I hear the clicking of heels across the floor from an approaching young Woman. Both of these guys come to attention, and one greets her with; "Can I help you Ma"am?". She replies; "Yes, I need a box of shotgun shells for my Husband". Apparently it takes two boys to help a Lady, because they all headed for the ammo department.

I may be getting old, but I can still write out a check...and that place will never have the chance to get one of mine.

That is messed up.

Maybe if you were a blonde with large hOOters and a nice back side they would be falling all over you to get you a TV. (after they were done texting their loser buddies of course)

Speaking of "bait" I have this younger farm buddy who had a cute teen daughter sooooooo when its time to put up hay he always put her on the wagon to help stack AND YOU KNEW IT, TEEN BOYS CAME FROM ALL OVER TO HELP AND WORKED LIKE DOGS ON THE WAGON SHE WAS ON LOL

Oh well, still a body would think one of the 6 would have at least walked up to me and offered something, heck anything lol By now I have fired off e mails to every corporate person I could get an e mail address for plus snail maled a letter on my official lookin attorney envelopes and letterhead, maybe somebody will read it before they toss it

What we have here..... Is a lack of people skills............... You done them kids a dis service by not snatching one up and shaking the p!ss out of him.....

Customer service to the point of approaching customers isn't that common here in stores like shoe and clothing stores.... Most any store, you have to ask for help. Pretty much the same in restaurants.... Took my wife on her first trip to the States and the customer service aggravated the heck out of her before she chilled out and took it in stride...... Thought she was gonna choke the poor guy at the boot corral......

Customer service sometimes is a rate commodity, especially in large stores.

Wonder how those kids would feel if the shoe were on the other foot.

As I walk away from the checkout with my purchase, if they don't say thankyou, I say your welcome anyway. Really trips them up.

Not like you John T to rant over something as triveal as poor customer service. I can understand where you are coming from however. Has to be a reason for their lack of courtesy. You should have went to Best Buy or Sears.Screw local buisness, too many are turning into what you just got upset over. And people wonder why American employment is and has went down the toilet along with American manufacturing. My guess is those clerks have no knowledgwe of the products on the show room floor or maybe they are suffering from the black friday or maybe the whole stupid weekend after thanksgiving. The area around us here near Phoenix Az. has shown the lowest beings on earth .called "Shoppers" Knifeings,Muggings, fights and now the police have been practiceing their own brand of assault at a Walmart near Buckeye Az a grand father trying to find his little grand son was assaulted by a cop and beaten badly.charged with misc. charges and went to jail.had to make bail which was unnecessary.has a lawyer who is looking at the case and a law suit probably will be pending shortly.follow it in the news,I"m sure it went nation wide.Oh wait you need a TV to do that, Better run right out and pick one up.some where.JH

John, Your a man of your word. You said thats what you do(letter writing/phone call) if bad service ,as well as good service is presented to you.I'm of the same cut of th jib. Regards LOU.

Yeah I wouldnt have ranted had I taken the time to sleep on it, but by golly I was upset. As I grow older I often go with the flow and practice the Serenity Prayer.......

I also buy much online nowadays, UPS puts it on my porch within a few days after I order it and I dont have to beg some pimpled teenage pencil necked loser to take my money...

I am an old grouch lol Ive earned it too

I went to the local Pizza Hut last week, had been waiting 5 minutes for take out, when a young chick came in. They came out the woodworks then, even the dishwasher. They still got her order first but it's a good thing she did walk in, I'd still be waiting.

Hello John T,
I'm with you on this HH greg thing.
I went to the H H greg store for the first time this year, and after many questions I was able to prepay for a GPS that was on sale.
The pinpled person took my phone number, so could call me when it was is... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to pick the unit up after I called and confirmer it was in.
Held up the line while i gave them a bit of negative customer feedback!
Told the person of the keybord to hit delete on my phone. You did not call me so you don't need my phone. and left!
I was grumpy too.!!!!!
Guido.

I have not been in an HH Greg store for over 15 years after the way they treated my (then) 85 year old mother. I have no plans to ever enter one of their stores.

Its everywhere, my thoughts on why; is that they all make the same $. Work 5.5hrs get paid for 5.5hrs. Not gonna make 40 in a week. No need to try hard.

Sales people need a good reason to greet you and try to sell you something, more sales=more $ to take home.

Do you remember a company called Circuit City, this is how they put theirselves into bankruptsy.

May have happened awhile back..My Grand daughter had a slight crush on him, we just couldn't get him to straighten his french in his vids. so she left him to be as boys are... don't see much of a chance now.

I don't know the store, but could they have a "Don't Pester!" policy in place & the idiot kids are taking things out of context? Maybe they've been too pushy in the past & had too many complaints. With all due respect, that would in theory, make your letter slightly amusing.

Mike

Regretfully it's a sign of the culture our young people are in. Marilyn had kids like that start texting while she was interviewing them for a job. Then they imediately ask her how many days off they are allowed and when they qualify for vacation time!!!!!!!!!! Jim

Jon the stupidity sue them for age discrimination, make a point of letting their corporate office know that no one over 50 gets waited on and that's probably going to cost them some coin, that usually gets their attention, or even better claim your gay and that's why they wouldn't wait in you they'll wet them selves trying to be politically correct.

I hate to jump in here, but I have a story you might like.

Back years ago, an old friend of my Dad had an Olds dealership in Maryland. He'd built it up over time, and was at a point he didn't come in at 8 am every day anymore.

He did come in one day about 1 pm, and noticed there were 3 or 4 people looking around the lot, and another in the showroom. There were six salesmen, all eating lunch or jawboning in the breakroom. For about 15 minutes. He did sell 3 cars that day, and worked his butt off to do it without any help around. He fired all six on the spot!

Other side of the coin. I hate it when I go in looking for something knowing exactly what I want and some duts will come up and try to tell me what I need and not have a clue or will stand right by you picking up the item they think I need and reading what it is while telling me this is it.

John T;
You probably left your fly open & they didn't want to embarass you. That's why they kept their head down when passing. lol

I'm pretty much the opposite. I prefer the sales people leave me alone. If I need one I'll go get em.

The main thing is Don't get excited! We're getting too old for that. lol

You guys are way to passive when it comes to that.

When i walk in a store for something, they better pay attention to me.
I ain't taking that ignoring crap from some lazy store clerk. It won't be the first time i walked right into a managers office and gave him a piece of my mind about the p!ss poor behavior of his personnel.

I usually walk out with a good deal to boot as apology,if not, i tell them to go F them selves and never to come back there again.

I don't care if they find me a jerk,in my eyes customer is still king
