kinda heartbroken.....

Take the cars to the garage cause it's cheaper than me screwing something up. Have my GO TO shop that always takes care of us. Have two trailers that need inspection so set it up to drop one off this morning and the other later..... Took the horse trailer first, checked all lights before I left and all was good except the license plate light. It just worked the other day so I told him and left. Got the other one empty and took it right away to drop off. He had everything apart on the horse trailer, asked him what was up and he flew into the defense mode and said none of the lights worked. Told him to change his tone and tell me whats up and he snapped "you can pick it up tomorrow afternoon" and walked off...

Nobody talks to me in that tone when they are getting my business....
Just don't know whether to cut him off or just chalk it up to a bad day......
Hate to loose a dependable guy, just have the feeling that I "caught him" and he got upset......

My guess, he was having a problem, and didn't know how to fix it. I'd just give him some time. I used to supervise skilled trade repair guys, electricians and machine repair, mostly. I found that the defensive behavior came out when they were frustrated, and got embarassed. Some guys were just like that, they are so insecure that they get rattled easily. The best seem to have the attitude that if it was easy, anybody could do it. And finding a short in a electrical harness can be a pain.

Yep,I think I caught the parts gal at the Agco dealer at a bad time one day when I called her. She got kinda pizzie with me and without even missing a beat,I got right in her crap too. Geez,I felt like dirt even though she started it. Anyway, she had what I wanted and I went to pick it up. As soon as I walked in the door, the first thing I said to her was that I was sorry that I jumped her like that. She said she was too and things have been even better than usual between us every since.
So,just let it go this time. Maybe he'll have a moment of guilt and apologize to you.

Took my car to a well respected shop for an oil change. The owner was having problems with his employees and screamed at me out of frustration. Chalking it up to him having a bad day, I decided to give him one more chance. A week later I took my car in for an estimate on a brake job. He said he was too busy and had more important jobs to do. Obviously never going back there.

I imagine he was frustrated with the vehicle, not you at all.

I wouldn't think a thing about it, unless it continues.

Just caught him in a moment, I imagine.

I'd let it go for now and if it happens again then find someone else. If you like this guy for a mechanic, keep him. It's such a pain in the butt to find a good one, don't go giving your self work trying to find another good one. Keep in mind trailer lights are a PIA. Them things can give me a bad day after 5 minutes of screwing with them.

Well, you might not like what I have to say, but I think we all might just be a bit too sensitive. I don't get all bent out of shape when people aren't perfectly nice. If that continues, then I might match his tone and move things on out of there. Otherwise, let it go...

Everybody has a bad day, I have had more trouble "not the right word" but you know what I mean with Welders and fabricators than anyone else. It seems that trade group must have been to yhe same school. I have known Blacksmiths from 60 years ago right up to our local guy right down the road. They all do good work, never had a bad one, but at their own time and no exceptions!

I have 35 years in control wiring. From gensets to trailers. At times it can make you want to slap your mother. Everything checks out,but nothing works. Been there many times.

I would just blow it off to a bad day.

If you left the trailer there without the tow vehicle, How did they check the lights ? unless everything over there is wired the same, which ain"t the case over here.

In my experience there are two kinds of trailer wiring. That which is scabbed together with hopes and prayers, and that which is run in some form of conduit and forgotten about. I like to run all of mine in conduit and make sure all grounds are well bonded.

Not preaching, just saying.

Good luck.

"Told him to change his tone"
couldn't you have just asked "whats up"
will you be cutting off your nose to spite your face.??

(quoted from post at 16:59:30 11/28/11) I think you have been in Germany to long.

Vito

Explain please...... You could be right tho...... Things aren't the same in the US as when I left...... Progress seems to have passed me by. I'd never dream of asking a neighbor's permission if I could put a fence on our line or fix the one he has been cutting.....

I'm not real tolerant........Asking "what's up" got him started... I'm sure he'll be himself when I pick them up today. If not, we'll talk a little...
I can get a little testy at times too I guess.....even with all my people skills

7 or 13 pole with an adapter to mix. Older vehicles had 7 and newer 13 wires are color coded and the same across the board unless modified.

He has a tester he plugs into the vehicle that he can hit a couple buttons and tell if it is working or not and what (but not where) the problem is. Another that he plugs the trailer into that does the same....

Maybe he "was" having a shutty day.

My experience with our horse trailer and using different trucks to pull with learned me a few lessons.

Had some friends borrow another friends trailer, when they plugged it up to their truck it locked up the brakes. Instead of taking time to figure out the wiring they just cut the wires going to each axle. Had the balls to return it that way too. The circle of friends was then broken.

Just know 1 bad ground will make you pull ya hair out till its found.

Good luck with him and your horses. Had a TB peel her forlock(sp) back, don't remember how many stitches and $$ it took to fix that one.

all good now......... picked them up and he was smiling.... Had a bottle of wine I can't stand waiting and a pile of nasty wires. Cost me an extra 100 bucks, but everything works (even an inside light I didn't know was there  )

Happy now.... and broke
