Hello,
I thought you would like these pictures.
Oct. 1972 Don Garlits and Prudhomme were there also. These are the only pictures I found.

Talking about Quarter Milers, we had a good one here in Kearney, NE in the 70's. Someone in Maryland owns her now, but I found a couple of pictures that I took of her in 2003. Pete's Patriot held the record in it's class in 1971. There was another AMX that ran against her locally called Steakmaker....I think I have a picture of it also.

Hello Tom in NE,
NICE! Where is the landing gear?
Those days not much electronics like now.
A friend of mine and I ran a bug at the 1/4 mile at the time I took the picture.
I don't rememger for sure what we did in the run but the dune buggy class, was pretty competitive!
Guido.

Hello stan,
Yep! I was playing around with a VW bug, in the dune buggy size-class. Fun times for sure.

Notice one of the sponsors is Revell. The good old days when even younger kids went to the track and built models at home. [I still do]

Gene was From Fort Worth Texas. His shop was on Grapevine Highway. There was a hamburger joint across the parking lot. Sometimes he would do burnouts in the parking lot. Sure made your food taste funny.

Hey GUIDO,
I've had a few air cooled VW's. Top end was a little over 60 MPH. We still have a quarter mile track here. It's by the airport and they use a couple old airport runways as the drag strips. Our airport was a B-17 training base in the 40's and there is plenty of concrete out there....16 inches deep.

Somewhere in my vast collection of toys I"m sure that I have a NIB 1/18th scale American Muscle Petes Patriot Drag Car....Just a few years ago I remember reading that Lou Downing got to drive the car again going to the final round at an old muscle car shoot out..They said that he was almost flawless..

Its not real talked about but when Richard Petty was drag racing his car went into the stands and killed a nine year old boy.

Awesome. My brother just found an AMX in a barn on his UPS route. I helped him bring it home. He and my nephew (14) are going to restore it for my nephews first car. Wish I had been so lucky, but it will be a great project for them. He"s one of the few kids I know that would rather be turning wrenches than planing video games. I understand there were only 800 or made?

Hello Tom in NE,

We took state champ back then. Just don't ask me what were the times, 1200 cc classs TOO many moons ago.
Guido.
