Engine interchanging

Question: I have a David Brown 990 selectomatic with a bad engine. I have a 530 Case with a good engine and a poor drive train. Is there any way to put the 530 engine in the David Brown Tractor?

You can "make" anything fit any where with enough work. The JI Case 530 and the David Brown 990 are two completely different tractors. David Brown was bought later by Case to have them for the Case utility tractor. It would not be a straight bolt together deal.

In short, anything is possible. Is it cost effective? NO

The DB uses part of the frame for the lower engine block/sump, staggered break at the clutch housing. The Case is a more conventional construction.

The DB isn't worth much in good shape, and much of its value is its efficient, reliable engine. You could easily spend 1000's getting the Case shoehorned in. No one I know would give you more than scrap value when done.

Find someone to fix the DB right or part it out.

You probably could... but if you sold both for parts you'd come close to having enough money to buy something that's better than either one ever was...
