I live about a block from my barn, and tractors. Yesterday I was walking over there and saw a black shinny pickup. My brother was talking to the guy in the truck. The guy was Don Prudhomme. Some of you race fans might know him as The Snake. I am not a rece fan, but my brother said he has some impressive victories in drag racing. He said he drives by all the time and stopped in to see all our stuff. He lives in the hi rent district known as Rancho Santa Fe calif, down the road from us. He seamed like a real friendly guy. man: if i had some big named person in my yard, i would take them out to lunch and let all my friends see me and be jealous...auto or movie,,

He used to come up here north of the border, seen him at Speedway Park several times in the 70s.

Hey Chief, why dont you(please) post some pics of your barn and"stuff" so the rest of us can see them,too.Thanks.Congrats on yuor'celebrity'status.LOL

Speaking of Don Prudhomme for some reason just reminded me of Art Arfons and the Green Monster. Pretty sure Arfons went from trying for the land speed record to tractor pulling with turbine engines. Is Arfons still around? Maybe Prudhomme would like to try snaking down a track with a pulling tractor. You could tell him some tractors have enough h.p. to blow the doors off his dragsters!

When I lived in DesMoines,I was driving by a holiday Inn. snakes hauler was parked there . Stopped in , he wasn't there, but his crew cheif was. took us all through the hauler, they were rebuilding couple motors for the next race . real nice guys .

I actually hunted quail in Ranch Sante Fe when they started building there We would work our way between the few homes that were there. I think there were about 5 there then, about 1967, on some 1000 acres.

Speedway Park in Edmonton? Went to the last ever race there on the road course. Geoff Brabham(sp) won. My brother was real good friends with perhaps the best TIG welder in Edmonton. He did some last minute after hours emergency work for Paul Newmans race team and not only got paid really good but got free pit passes and beer as well. He welded up about a 4 inch hole that was blown out along with several cracks. It wasn't as good as a new gearbox but it allowed them to run the car. He did a bunch of welding for some other teams as well since his dad owned a specialty welding shop.

Don Prudhomme is perhaps one of the top 3 drag racers of all time along with Don Garlits and John Force. It wasn't that long ago he retired.

My stepbrother hitched a ride in the Green Monster dragster back in the 60s, he was hanging around the track all of the time(just a kid)

gtractorfan, Art Arfons died in Dec. 2007. I just googled "Art Arfons" and it sent me to wickipedia which has quite a story about him.

Yup, in Edmonton, also remember Big Daddy and Cha Cha at the park, she always got alot of attention.
