Lou-Wisc - look familiar? Two BIG diesels on the hill

All our snow is gone and I've been moving stuff from the hill and bringing it down to the shop - including two deer for somebody.

To Lou of Wisconsin . . the yellow diesel look reminiscent of one of your past projects.

i have a chevete with a deisel and it runs and drives like a new car with a few rattles -- 45 mpg no sweat -- 166 thousand miles --2 timing belts - 1 water pump-- 1 set of brakes - 3 sets of tires -- 1 master cyl-- and that is about it- cost 1750 dollars a long time a-go-- does yours still run?

Yes. I've got two. Both 1981. The one in the photo was literally owned by a "little old man" who never drove it in the winter. It only has 80K and runs like new. And yeah, 45 MPG is the usual for highway driving.

The other one I have has 340,000 miles and still going - but it's rusted to death. I got it from the original owner down the road from me.

Those little Isuzu 1.8 diesels are amazing. Especially when you consider that Isuzu made them from existing gas engine platforms.

I've also got a 2.2 in my 1985 mini-truck. Also is bullet-proof.

By the way, I used to hear people joke about how gutless diesel Chevettes were (or are). I think it's got plenty of power. My first Chevette was a 1976 with a 1.6 and this diesel is more gutsy.

This summer I drove my gas Chevette to the salvage yard because it sounded like a diesel. Tough little lumber wagon, er, car nonetheless. I always wanted a diesel Chevette tho. Jim

Jde. OH Boy does it ever. !!Every time we fire up th O.C 46 I think of you and know you are responsible for the repair/running of it.Yep the Dodge is another like we have and the old Ford (see pic) is what I drove home wih the family when I got discharged. Now your Picture of the homestead makes me want to go sit on the hill and reach a deep sigh of contentment. Thanks for remembering , and Many THANKS FOR THE PICTURES. question? Is the crawler gonna be in your stable of equiptment for work around the place? what about the ford. Is it a (50-56year) column shift 3 speed ?Loved the flat head engines.Dependable work horses. warmest regards LOU.

I want one. Had a Chevet with the 151 CI gasser. Didn't know that there was a diesel. Liked the car. It was better than VW's when I was stationed a the University of La Crosse Wisconsin. Had 2 VW's while there until the first winter (-25 through December 1982). Had to wrap a blanket around me to go to the office along with ice scrapper for the inside window so I could see where I was going. So, the way the fuel/gas prices are, wouldn't mind having a Chevet diesel.
