Ertl Farm toys

I just bought an Ertl 1/16 scale tractor.(730 John Deere)It says on the box. (2010 LEARNING CURVE BRANDS, INC. Oak Brook, Illinois U.S.A. and under that MADE IN CHINA.
I went to Ertls website and it says Dyersville IA. Do they make any toys there or are they all China made using Ertls name? I couldnt see anywhere on the web site saying China made.
Thanks

It is all 100% made in China. I started buying Bruder stuff for my boys. It's at least made in Germany and far tougher than the China junk.

yes it is all china now. it used to be made in iowa. thats were it originated but just like everything else that used to be made in the us is now made in china. its the older toys you can actually find made in the us on them.

My extensive collection of 1/16th Ertl is 50/50 made usa and made china.I think it just depends on what year it was made. Seems the stuff made prior to 1990 is predominatly USA made. However I think that Spec Cast is still being made in Dyersville and also Ertl 1/8th scale collectables and precision models. It seems that Ertl is like so many Manufactueres in the USA ,they can"t seem to make a profit on the backs of their employees while paying them minimum wages and no benefits! The Phallacy of this line of thinking is that labor is a small part of production costs as most if not all production is mechanised,so no labor cost but for a small maintenance section. Wall Street is greedy and uncareing about the american dream. How we are surviving as a country I can not understand. Getting back to Ertl,we have yard sales occasionally and when ever I put some of my 1/16th collection out to sell, usually at a loss over cost, some one will have an interest until they find the "Made In China" sticker or engraving and at that point they loose interest.Made in China products have no real value and if you collect Ertl,I strongly advise to pass on the Made in China stuff.I consider my purchase of Ertl stuff which was Made in China a foolish purchase.

I have a few items made by Ertl and Spec cast. I think it is all made in china. And I know it is all virtually worthless.

Yep,I quit buying new farm toys when Racing Champions bought them and moved production to China. Only thing I'll buy anymore is old stuff on the rare ocation that I can find it. I had a guy drive in four or five years ago with an old Moline that he wanted to sell, but I think that was about the last one that I bought.

Ertl Toys was started by Fred Ertl Sr. in 1945, in Dubuque. He moved to Dyersville in the 1950s. They made most of their toys here in Dyersville Iowa. By the mid to late 1990s they had started to have some made over seas. Then in 1999 the company was sold to Racing Champions. At that time all production was stopped at Dyersville. About three hundred people lost their jobs. The main building at Dyersville is just a warehouse that toys are transfered from containers to US freight companies.

Racing Champions changed it name to RC2 and then the Learning Curve. All most everything they make is made in China.

Scale Models was started by Joe Ertl ( Fred's brother) in 1978. They still make the all of their toys here in Dyersville. Their toys used to be a little more crude looking but are US made.

Spec Cast was started in 1974 in Rockford, IL. Then Dave Bell bought the company in 1986. He moved the factory to Dyersville then. Dave Bell still owns the company. The majority of their toys are still made here in the US.

I have stopped collecting anything Ertl/RC2 makes after they moved the production to China. I buy a few of the cheap little toys for hand outs to kids but none of the more expensive stuff.

I don't buy my toys as an investment--I just buy what I like. It would be nice if they were all made here, but it's a fact of life these days that they are not.
So if I see something I like and it's in my price range, I will probably get it, no matter where it's made!

You also stopped buying Ertl/RC2 because they don't exist in that form any longer. Tomy bought them a few months back. They still use the Ertl name, but Racing Champions is no longer in the toy tractor business.
