I need a truck. Wife wants me to go with a dodge. Currenlty have a '97 3500 454, farm truck, made to pull. She wont drive it, or ride in it cause it smells like the manure wagon. Need a family truck anyway. I want a 2500. I am assuming I will get one with the 5.7, as a diesel just isnt justified as I have the 3500 GM. Can any one fill me in on their experiences, good and bad on these trucks? I love the 2010-2012 dodges looks, and features, but can not justify spending $35-45,000, even with the 0% financing.

If you already have the 3500 why not get a 1/2 ton Dodge. Mileage might be a little better and your wife will get in and out of it easier. I have an S-10-20 MPG, 79 3/4 ton Dodge-9 MPG and a Dodge Cummins Dually- 15 MPG and the S-10 gets by far the most miles put on. Jim

If you get a 2500 and start using it for your farming pretty soon it will smell like the cows anyway. Are the cows paying for it or your wifes job? Yeah, I'm single.

Like H*** it is a dog. I have a 2008 1500 with 5.7 and it runs as hard as my 383 1970 Roadrunner did. Both at drag race and high end. Really kind of scary. Gets up to 18 on the road and 13 to 16 around town. Has 3.92 axles and is 4X4. Automatic is great and quad cab is nice for family.

My wife loves her 2006 dodge 1500 quad cab hemi i like it to. like you i have a 3500 gmc diesel for pulling

actually this year the crops are paying for it. I dont put alot of miles on a year, looking to get a truck with low miles, and keep it for many years. My 1500 I have had since 1996, 68,000 on it when I bought it, has 150,000 on it now. The 97 3500 bought in 2005 with 196,000(from father inlaw, meticulous maintenance) now has 223,000 on it, but has been doing double duty as the 1500 has been retired until I partit or sell it.

I have a 2004 Dodge Hemi, only thing I've done is new windshield wipers and I just put a new battery in it after 7 years. 1500 Quad cab 4wd. I ain't getting rid of it. excellent truck. No, it is not a dog by any means.

I've got a pair of '04 Dodge 2500 QC, 4WD, long bed, automatic 2500's. One HO diesel, other 5.7L Hemi. Hemi is cheaper to buy, cheaper to operate, quieter, better natured in cold weather, and will tow same trailers with same load right on down the highway @ speed limit. Diesel has SLIGHT advantage on hills when loaded heavy, but not so much as to justify the added cost. Both have roughly 180,000 miles. Gasser is lighter on front end, so tires wear a little better.

I'm trading them in on new trucks in the next 6 months. BOTH will be gassers on the next go-round.

Both trucks are used in my business. Both routinely tow 25' goosenecks w/trailer & cargo weight of 8,500 to 9,000lbs. With one exception, my employees favor driving the gasser also.
