one of my cows went down last evening ,, it is a mystery ,, all were well and are well and healthy , could be a large tree limb fell on her and paralyzed her ,, can't imagine poisonin from wild cherry tree leaves, most all leaves are all gone from winds ,, maybe carryin a calf no more than half along ,, then aain , could be the bull horsed around and got her in a bad way, flipped her over , did not detect broken back bone , but leg sare useless ,,. guesss i should butcher ...

Hate it when that happens. We had one this spring after the weather started warming up. I gave it to the boys and the nephews. They didn't want to let it hang in warm weather so they started cutting it up right after they skinned it. Glad it was them eating it,not me.

J,

I've had two cows go down within the past year. In both cases, I had them euthanized by the vet and took their carcasses to an Ag Center in Nashville for necropsies. In both cases, the vets determined that they had lympho-sarcoma cancer. The cancer had metastesized to their spines and caused them to lose control of their hind legs.

The cows were from different lines of mothers and from two different bulls. I have culled all their off-springs to insure that their genes are out of my herd.

Who knows?

We had a heifer a couple years ago that got jumped by another one that was in heat, and it broke her hip. We took her to someone who butchers on the side and they're the ones who found it & let us know what happened.

Had her ground into hamburger and she was pretty tasty.

I had one that lost use of the back legs, but that was after calving, nursed her back to health fortunately..
