Problem here ? .. my lx176 JD /kawasaki mower is not getting gas ,, Fuel will not flow from tank line ,, Air flows freely thru ,, Cant get gas to the fuel pump,, motor will run by self while hand feedin gas ,, but clear filter is not taskin up gas ..

on my old JD mower i changed the filter once with one not made for gravity feed and it air locked it some how. I never did understand why. Also its possible you have a stopped up filter thats plugged and if you blow air through it the oposite way it will go through but stops right up again when you stop blowing on it. Ive seen that happen also. I did put one of those vacumn pumps on a old johnson out board, that used to have a presurized tank. Installed a clear filter at the same time and it never fills. When engine is running you can see gas pulling through filter, but i think since those pumps only pull what engine needs since they run off vacumn, they dont really have enough flow to fill the filter. It very could be that may be your case and that you have a bad diaphram in pump. You may get a indication from tank itself. If its mounted low enough gas wont flow up of course ,or if it pulls out of top of the tank it could do this. Another thing to check would be the fuel cutoff in bottom of carb. Almost all this newer stuff has a solenoid there that cuts fuel off. If thats bad you could run engine by feeding fuel thru carb throat, but it cant move gas through bowl of carb. Since they have a diphram pump of course if fuel is not flowing out it wont suck any in from tank. There is no bypass back to tank and so filter would never fill. Needle /float in carb will give the same indication. If it were mine i would pull bowl off carb, and crank it. If i got no fuel flow i would think needle and seat or fuel pump. If it did have fuel flow then,i would strongly suspect the fuel cutoff solenoid,or something in its control circuit. My opinion of course.

Some of the JD mowers have the fuel line pickup on the TOP of the tank. Fuel line is attached to a fitting on the top, that has a rubber grommet and is connected to a metal (sometimes plastic) tube that goes in the top and down to the bottom of the tank. The corrode and break off, and then you won"t get any gas out of the tank, but you will air.

believe on an LX, you have to remove the rear fender deck to see and access that.

you can go to JD"s parts site and look up your mower and get a parts diagram of the fuel tank, rear fender area, and that should show if you have that type fuel line and tank, or not.

Is this a gravity feed system? A lot of times on a gravity feed fuel system they will air lock. You will have to take the line loose and fill it and the filter with a tiny funnel. When it is full hook it back up and it will flow. Crazy eh?
