cost to reroof a barn?

Has anyone hired a roofer to put a new metal roof on their barn?

I'm curious about what others have paid to have a metal roof put on a 36 x 80 gambrel-roofed barn.

That helps. I was thinking it would be at least $10k with labor and materials. I'm just trying to get some reference points for when I start getting bids.

See pics in above posting, did not use standing seam roof, I'm told it is more expensive both to buy, and to install.

You would probably need to include some expense to remove the old roof I assume.

I had a contractor friend, who used to do a lot of barn and barn roof work.

On roofs, if he didn't have to remove anything, his shirt tail estimate was 1.5 times the total material cost for labor. This included nailers, screws, trim, etc.

That would usually give him enough cusion to run into problems and still make money. He worked by the hour, so if it came in below his estimate, he'd bill you less. If he screwed up, he'd have eat it.

It has prolly been 5 or 6 years ago since I was helping him, when I could. That number may have changed with higher steel prices now.

It's a place to start.

Let us know what you end up with, then we'll all have a [i:74357d8721]modern day [/i:74357d8721]idea.

Two years ago a friend of mine put steel on his barn. They stripped it with 2x4s then screwed the steel to the 2x4s. He used the best colored steel rather then cheap stuff and total bill came to 12,000.00 It was 36X80.

Are there any solar power feed in tariff programs in your state? This would be the time for solar panel installation if there was.

Last winter did a 40 X 90. Stripped it with 2x4's & screwed down. It came t 14,000. Also did a 28x45 last winter the same way & it was 7600.00

Mine is under contract right now . 32 by 60 standard packed roof. steel over old shingles or tear off at his opinion for $7.500. I wish he would get at it.

Last one I had done came in just under 150 a square labor and materials with old metal on a wagon but left on site. He put down 3 new 1x6 sheeting boards and used 50 year galvalume.

I had steel put on my barn about 10-11 years ago. IIRC, it cost me almost $13000, but it was worth it. I'm sure with steel prices what they are, it would cost a lot more now. Mine is 120'x42', also a gambrel roof.
