IH 1420 COMBINE INJECTION PUMP

I don't know the precedure' but the motor is the same German diesel as an an 856 IH so if you have that, you are good. Somebody else will probably chime in here soon, It is probably the same pump that is on a 706 with german diesel too, cause some of the fuel lines that are NLA from Case for that tractor are the same on your combine.

thanks for reply-been working all day trying to locate timing marks on injecter pump-understand i need to have all timing marks lined up before removal-pump started leaking diesel fuel into oil while harvesting corn

As far as taking it off... the CAV pump, on my MF35 the pump and the tractor have a 'master tooth' on the gears- the pump and timing gear are splined into each other with the master key making it impossible to make a mistake. I hope yours is like that. Got to have a manual on the subject... now that I rebuilt the engine AND the injector pump myself, I was led to U tube.... where there are dozens of home made videos of people doing what I just finished. so check that out too. I got my injector kit from grigg's lawn and garden in ... Gulfport? Miss.

thanks for info-we like massey ferguson also-changed over from mf 300 combine to this ih 1420 combine and is having pump leaking-trying to find timing marks on injection pump for removal

Well, what is leaking? Most likely these 4 posts, 2 bolts, a shut off and the throttle. O rings. Yours can't be that different. Firstly, I don't think you need to worry about losing a timing mark, but you better find out from an IHC guru, not me. As far as just a leak, do a search on fergie and massey forums. Over the last few months several people are fixing their CAV pumps with off the shelf o-rings. The usual culprets. Go read what they did, and search my threads on rebuilding this one, and do some IH searches on the same subject. Personally, I ain't scared of these things any more. No magic in there. More coo coo clock than space shuttle. PM me if you'd like.

Under the two screw side cover there is a pointer. You turn engine until the line on cam of pump is lined up with the under side of that pointer and you should be at about 14 degrees btdc on the front pulley of engine. You need to take off the four bolt front cover in front of pump and the pump drive shaft is a fairly tight fit on shaft. Also, shaft has a half moon key so watch that. I have a tool to pull gear loose from shaft but a tap on end should get it to come loose. Front seal will no doubt be the culprit and may have a groove in the shaft. If engine ran good before no need to have a complete repair done on pump like pump shop will want to talk you into. Spendy.
