Ebay is advertising a Cannon EOS kiss x 4 {550D] DSLR camera with twins lens kit for $769 {say value is $1299] 500 only.Japanese manf.

What are your views from the knowledgable out there, good, bad, or indifferent.

I have a Pentax DSLR, so not fully knowledgeable about the Cannons. I had a conversation with a young feller who had used both Cannon and Nikon DSLRs, and he said the Cannons are more user friendly. My SIL and Daughter just bought a Cannon EOS Rebel 'something', so not that exact model, but have not heard anything negative about it!

All of the pictures I post here are taken with a Canon
Rebel XS DSLR. It is indeed user Friendly and a really good shooter to boot. Makes a rank amateur like me look like a pro LOL. We've had it three years and it's been completely trouble free. Took 650 pics in Finland and they all turned out really well. Don't know anything about the model on Ebay but if it's like ours, you'll like it. We paid just a hair more than $1200 three years ago. This pic was taken in about five seconds. I was walking along in the forest, saw the flower, stopped, pointed, zoomed, shot and went on. The camera does all of the fancy adjusting for you. Jim

ake sure it isn't a counterfeit/scam, because a REAL Canon is spelled with a single N.

I have a Cannon AE1 that took super photos course that one is in storage with batteries out an also a Kodiak7320 made by Cannon that i have dropped on concrete 2 times from waist height an cracked case on corner an its still works .Also inherited a EOS20d from my daughter it is a fantastic camera. However the best reason for owning a Cannon was the prompt courteous easy to understand directions needed couple weeks ago on transfering photos to computer.I just entered there web site an posted problem. I imediiately received a electronic answer as it was late at night an also next day received a email from a techinician explaining procedure more throughly.
So its CANNON for me!!

A darn good camera....we have had one for several years.
Word of warning, though! Do not remove/reinstall the memory card any more than you have to! The pins in the camera socket can be easily bent, and when that happens, the camera has to be sent in for repair.
We download the pictures to a computer with the USB cable and free up space.
Out side of the memory card socket problem, it is a trouble-free camera.

Don't be afraid of a Canon camera, they're first rate. I have a Canon Power Shot SX20 that just amazes me; takes good photos in spite of my ineptitude. Has only one lens, but cranks out to 80X (digital zoom) with some really remarkable results. Daughter took it to NYC last week, now she's trying to wheedle me out of it.

Started out with a Canonet years ago and still with Canon, sort of brand loyalty I guess, have a higher end model now thats very user friendly.

Cannon? just be careful who you point it at! But you would be better of with a genuine Canon than an an er.. "Phoney" Sony?

It is almost the same price from Amazon:

www.amazon.com/Canon-Kiss-550D-Digital-18-55mm/dp/B003MOM7YS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1321443720&sr=1-1

One reviewer gave it 5 stars.

I have a Canon Rebel T2I, which I believe is also called the Canon 550D. I have an 18-150mm lens.

It's a great camera, pretty easy to use, I think, though I've got some experience with a SLR camera. It might be a bit too much for someone that doesn't have much experience with a camera....though you can always learn. I know that I still haven't learned all the features of mine.

One problem is that it is big and bulky, not exactly the best for carrying around all day unless you REALLY want it for "special" shooting or really high speed shooting. I did want those features, as well as the video feature.

Does this camera you're looking at come with a lens? Unless it is a kit, the lenses are sold separately, and can vary in price wildly depending on quality.

Not the best shot to show as an example, but it is really quite a fine camera:

I use a Canon A60 that I've had for years and years. The paint is all worn off from daily use. Whenever it pukes I send it in and Canon rebuilds it. They have never charged me a dime. I'd buy another Canon.

Here is link to Digital Photography review site. Lots of great info there to help make a decision as to which brand or model camera to purchase.
I bought a CANON A620 "point and shoot" camera 5 years ago. It makes fantastic quality images, very sharp and true color. I get lots of comments from folks who see my images on my computer screen.
If I ever wanted a more professional type camera it would be a CANON.

Watch out buying electronics from Ebay. I got took on a Canon camera. I never got my camera or my money.

Wal-Mart.com sells a Nikon SLR camera for $500. I have it now and it takes great pics. My sister is a professional photographer and she has the next model grade up from what Wal-Mart sells. To get it to take really good pics, you will need to buy the better lens. But, for amateur pics, it does really well with the standard lens.

I have had 2 canon cameras and never could get either of them to take pics without the color being wrong. I hated them. They are not a point and shoot camera on the auto function.

I have the T1i (500) which is one generation older. Both canon and Nikon make really good DSLR's and lenses. Nikons seem to have a better feel and layout to many people while Canon lenses are regarded to be superior. Both take great pictures though.

The 18-55 is II kit lens is considered a decent starter lens, but nothing too special. is (image stablization) is very good on canon lenses with that technology as it is built into the lens and not the camera. the gen 1 18-55 is considered to be pretty low end though. I immediately replaced my stock lens with a 15-85 IS for walking around though and absolutely love it at shows. I found the 18-55 to not be as clear as I had hoped and the extra range is great since I don't want to be swapping lenses a lot at dusty shows. I have a 70-300 is as well for a telephoto but don't use it much. Your quality of pictures is going to be almost entirely dependent on your skill and quality of glass. the camera body is much less a factor, so don't be surprised if you spend far more on the glass then the camera.

As far as ebay bargains go, don't. 90% are probably scams, do a little research and you will find many of these are storefronts for a notorious new york operation that changes names frequently. You might get nothing, or you might get an email saying you need to spend extra money if you want things like lens caps, batteries, straps etc that are normally included. If you don't take the "upgrades" you might not get your order etc. Its all a big scam for the most part and is well documented.

Theres only a few operations you should feel comfortable with buying from, these are B&H and Adorama. If the list price is less then theirs, its probably a scam. Canon does have its on store, and will occasionally have good deals on refurb equipment, as will Adorama and B&H. KEH.com is another site that deals in used cameras and lenses and is supposed to be decent. online photography buying is probably the worst as far as buyer beware.
