I have a set top box to convert my analogue tv signal to digital. When I attached the VCR I could only tape the channel I was watching.
I have since thrown the old out and now have a digital tv..

Can I hook this set top box to the digital tv to operate my vcr. or will I bugg$r the lot if I do.
The vcr is a NEC, I see vh-605 on the front and "energystar".
As you can see My knowledge is nought.

In general, you can leave the converter box on (may have to turn off it's 'sleep' option which might turn it off every 4 hours) turn it to the channel you want to record.

If hooked up to the VCR, the VCR can record that channel when you want it to record.

You won't be able to record from different channels in the same evening.....

I have a Magnavox converter box that some bright engineer desided it was a good idea to have it self terminate after a couple of hours. If you set it up to tape a show while you're at work the converter box will turn itself off before the show will come on so the answer is no on Magnavox.

I use a usb tv tuner hooked up to my computer. Then I use the guide in windows media center to schedule my recordings. It's set up right now to automatically record my favorite shows if they are new episodes. And it lets me pause live tv, I can't stand being stuck on the couch until the next commercial break. It does require a fast computer, and a big hard drive though.
